Callaway Mavrik Vs. Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Comparison & Review
We’ve been big fans of the original Rogue line from Callaway so we were psyched when they re-launched it in 2022. We loved the original Rogues because they had advanced features for a club in the game-improvement category.
However, we were also a bit wary to test he new Callaway Rogue ST Max because we were afraid that Callaway may have ruined a good thing. So we decided to test it against the tried and true Callaway Mavrik driver. Let’s see at how the new Callaway Rogue ST Max fared.
Callaway Mavrik Driver Overview
When we tested the Callaway Mavrik driver, we were amazed at how well it still holds up in terms of club head speed and ball speed.
Even with more modern drivers, you don’t get the same kind of instant increase in club head speed that you do with the Callaway Mavrik. Of course, being able to swing the club faster doesn’t always mean more distance; but if you are semi-accurate, you will get more distance with the Mavrik.
The standard Mavrik is the only driver in the Mavrik series that has the aerodynamic “Cyclone” head shape. Conversely though, it’s also the only Mavrik not to have an adjustable weight. But what you lose in versatility you gain in swing speed.
The standard Mavrik is light and most of our testers saw a boost in swing speed which is what you can also expect if you are a mid to low handicapper.
Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Overview
The Callaway Rogue ST Max doesn’t have the same premium features as the original Rogue; but it still carries on the tradition of distance and forgiveness.
The Callaway Rogue ST Max has a beefy 460CC head that looks great at point of address. Inside the head is a 26g tungsten cartridge that places the CG nice and low while imparting a slight draw bias. If you want a stronger draw bias check out the Callaway Rogue ST Max D.
The Callaway Rogue ST Max won’t increase swing speed – at least, it didn’t for us. It did however produce less spin than the Callaway Mavrik which, for our higher handicap testers, meant better distance.
Callaway certainly did not ruin the Rogue. In fact, they improved it and made it much more congenial for beginners and high handicappers than the Callaway Mavrik driver.

Mavrik Driver – First Impressions
Once you get passed the bright colors and attractive design, you can immediately see how light and wieldy the Mavrik drivers really are.
The face on the club is huge and it gives you the confidence you need to let the driver rip, even on the first tee with a crowd gathered to watch. The face is also ultra thin, ultra light special steel which sends the ball into orbit on contact.
Two internal jailbreak bars on under side of the club hold everything together by connecting the sole with the crown and adding extra stability, feel, consistency and distance. The shape of the driver is also aerodynamic and like everything with the clubs, focused on more swing speed.
The Different Mavrik Driver Versions
The Mavrik is for your average player or mid handicapper, medium levels of forgiveness, and mid spin. This one has a standard launch angle too.
The Mavrik max is similar with more forgiveness and a higher ball flight for higher handicappers
The Mavrik Pro has a 450cc head, less forgiveness and spin and higher emphasis on distance for low handicappers and fast swingers.
Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver – First Impressions
After our first swing with the Roge ST Max, we were very impressed by how solid and satisfying it felt.
Part of the solid feel comes from the internal bracing bars that are more laterally expansive to provide body support both horizontally and vertically. That, coupled with the titanium low-profile body bracing make for an exceptionally solid driver with a nice, comfortable and low center of gravity.
The Callaway Rogue ST Max also features an adjustable hosel for fine-tuning your shot shape.
The Rogue ST Family
The Rogue ST Max is the only one with a 26 gram tungsten weight. The Rogue ST Max D, Rogue ST Max LS and Rogue ST LS have either 23 gram or 20 gram weights. The Rogue ST LS was the most workable of the bunch and produced the lowest spin off the tee.
