Callaway Edge Vs Callaway XR Golf Club Set Comparison

Callaway Edge Vs Callaway XR Golf Club Set

The Callaway XR and Edge golf club sets are both good choices for high handicappers.

But which one came out on top in head-to-head testing? Find out in the following comparison!

Callaway Edge Set Overview

“The Callaway Edge set comes with a 10.5 titanium driver, 3W, 5H, irons 6-SW and a putter.”

All the woods in this set look clean and sleek. The driver is titanium and has a very generous sweet spot.

And I liked that the cavity back irons were oversized. This makes them very easy to hit if you’re a beginner or high handicapper.

The Callaway Edge set also comes with a White Hot Odyssey putter which is very accurate and easy to use even if you don’t have much experience putting.

Callaway XR Overview

Callaway XR

“The Callaway XR set comes with a 460cc titanium driver, 3W, 4H, 5H, irons 6-9, PW, AW, SW and putter.”

The inclusion of three wedges is a nice touch and allows the player to hit multiple shots from a variety of lies.

The Odyssey DFX putter feels balanced in the hands and helps you maintain your intended path very easily.

“If your short game is your main concern, go with the Callaway XR set. But if you need more distance and forgiveness from your woods and long irons, the Callaway Edge is the set for you.”

Callaway Edge 10 Piece Set – First Impressions & Club Break Downs

Because Callaway have seen the huge interested in the Strata beginner set, they have aimed the edge set at those improving golfers who want a high quality complete set to hit the course with.

Immediately noticeable when you look at the longer clubs is that they appear more solid and durable. They look more like something akin to the Callaway Mavrik Set than something for beginners.

Driver

The driver is a 10.5 degree club with a large head, massive sweet spot with a low COG and weighting in the back of the club for perfect trajectory and distance.

3 Wood

The 3 Wood has a large head and sweet spot too. the back weighting makes the club easy to get in the air from the fairway and if you struggle getting enough distance off the tee, the 3 wood is a perfect option for that too.

5 Hybrid

A perfect club from the fairway or the rough. The powerful head is built for distance but when coupled with the perimeter weighting, the club produces and excellent towering flight.

6 – 9 Iron

Cavity back irons that are game improvement but also have a deep undercut to allow you work the ball and add extra spin. The clubs are both long and forgiving with high MOI and low COG with tungsten weighting.

Also coming in a tough graphite shaft to suit fast, average and slow swing speeds.

You’ll enjoy hitting these as you make your approach to the green.

Wedges

The PW and the SW and both cavity back and the deep turf interaction with the higher lofts allows you to really attack the pin on your final approach to the green and add spin for the better players.

Putter

The putter in the edge set is one of the best clubs in the bag. It is a premium Odyssey White Hot Putter with visual alignment and tons of stability to keep you advancing on the hole with perfect accuracy.

Shafts

The longer clubs come with durable graphite shafts for faster swing speeds and you get a choice of steel or graphite in the irons. Fast swing speeds will tend to favor steel while beginners and slower swing speeds will favor the forgiveness of the graphite option.

One glaringly obvious omission in the Edge set is that there is no bag, it comes in a box!

Who Is The Edge Set For

The Edge set is perfect for a high handicapper or as a second set for someone who has outgrown their beginners clubs. The Edge is not for low handicappers but it has enough to take a golfer from a high handicap to a mid handicap.

This will suit all players and swing speeds with the graphite shafts, deep undercuts and emphasis on distance.

The set is for someone who doesn’t want to fork out thousands of dollars on buying premium clubs but wants a similar style of performance in a cost effective package.
