Callaway Big Bertha BB23 Irons Review – Are They Forgiving & Good for High Handicappers?

The Big Bertha BB23 Irons are a new contender in the Super Game Improvement section, carrying the legendary name and going into direct competition with the likes of the Taylormade Stealth HD Irons and the Titleist T400 series.

They carry on the famous brand name that’s been changing the game since the early 90’s and from our testing, they are certainly worthy of their famous title.

Callaway Big Bertha BB23 Irons Overview

First thing to notice is that these irons look amazing in the bag, a solid 10% points nice than the 2021 version, in part down to the stunning “Black Smoke” finish of the new irons.

Make no mistake about it, The BB23’s are going to be aimed at high handicappers and mid handicappers who don’t strike their irons well. Iron manufacturers know they are in competition with Hybrids these days and we are seeing bigger and chunkier irons as a result and they are super easy to hit well, consistently.

The CG is extremely low in the irons and they offer effortless launch. This is achieved by placing 46gs of Tungsting weighting, low in the head and there is also 11g’s Tungsten weighting in the heel and the toe of the club to produce a large sweet spot and more forgiviness.

These irons are built for straight shots, forgiveness, good ball speeds, consistency, easy launch and slice correction. The heads are bigger, longer, and chunkier than their predecessor and there is even more offset to promote ultimate confidence as you hack your way around the course.

The irons possess strong lofts and this is due to the fact that the CG is so low and the weight dynamics, the ball would fly too high without these stronger lofts.

Each head is specially designed by A.I to offer premium performance so whether you want your long irons to be long or you want your short irons to stop dead on the green, the BB23’s have got you covered. The face is now also made from 450 steel which promotes face ball speeds and more spin consistency.

We’ve also got Urethane Microspheres behind the face to improve the sound and feel while reducing any unwanted vibrations.

Simply put these irons are going to be excellent for people that have slower swing speeds and hit the ball over the face of the club. They will be able to achieve long, straight and consistent shots with Callaways most forgiving Irons.

Are Big Bertha 23 Irons Forgiving?

These are Super Game Improvement irons that are super forgiving to hit for high handicap players and those with slower swing speeds.

The BB23’s are among the most forgiving ever produced, so, if you suffer with ball flight, consistency, launch, distance or a slice, the Big Bertha 23 irons will have you covered.

They help bad players to hit more greens in regulation consistently.

Are The BB23 Irons Good for Beginners & High Handicappers?

Beginners, high handicappers and seniors with slower swing speeds will all find the BB23 irons to be a fantastic weapon in their arsenal.

If you have been playing the wrong irons and mishitting all over the place, the BB23’s are exactly what you need to bring some enjoyment into the game and start lowering your scores.

These irons also look amazing and they are designed to hide their size so they look a lot slicker than your standard super game improvements. If you are a mid handicapper struggling with their irons, switch to more hybrids or pick up something like the Callaway BB23’s.

Big Bertha BB23 Irons – First Impressions

These irons look really nice in the bag, the blue has been removed from the 21 version and the super forgivness features have been camoflaged to ensure that these irons look super slick in your bag.

These irons have longer blades, a thicker top line, a chunkier sole, and more offset to ensure that you get maximum forgiveness, distance, launch, and consistency from your clubs. These are perfect for beginners, high handicappers, slow swing speeds, and any golfer who is very inconsistent with they shots.

Slower swing speeds will get the launch and distance they want, due to light weight and ultra-low CG. Players that hit the ball all over the face will get that much-needed consistency in their ball flight.

Each iron is specially designed by A.I. and are progressive. The longer irons get good distance and the short irons have good stopping power on the greens.

Urethance Micropshers sit behind the 450 stainless steel face which gives super ball speeds for such a chunky iron while the sound and feel are also right up there with the best in the game improvement category.

Overall a great iron for anybody who wants ultimate forgiveness while sacrificing some distance and workability. It’s all about trade-offs in the Iron selection.
