Are Ping G Irons Good for Beginners & High Handicappers?
“Definitely. This is a great starter set of irons that will serve you as your game improves.”
The combination of high MOI and great launch make this an ideal set of irons for beginners who are serious about improving.
While they aren’t the longest irons in this category, they are forgiving for beginners.
And what makes them an especially smart purchase for beginners who really want to improve is the profile. As we have already stated, these aren’t irons with huge heads.
So as you start to improve, you will find that the Ping G irons are easier to work than most of the game improvement irons currently on the market.
Should You Buy the Ping G’s Or the G425’s?
“You should buy the Ping G425 irons if you are a mid handicapper but still want moderate forgiveness.”
While the G425’s echo some of the same forgiveness and game-improvement features as the Ping G’s, they have a smaller profile making them more workable overall.
This is a better design for mid handicappers; but not so much for beginners.
The Ping G425 irons have a variable face thickness design that is made up of the same 17-4 stainless steel as the Ping G irons.
The cascading sole of the Ping G425 irons also give them similar stopping power from distance.
However, it should also be noted that the Ping G425 irons have slightly stronger lofts than the Ping G irons.

Ping G First Impressions
“The Ping G irons have a deep cavity back and a tuning port that stretches all the way down into the sole.”
Perhaps the most striking thing about the Ping G irons is their design. In 2022, the Ping G irons still have a distinctive look.
The face profile is a bit shallow but also wide so lateral forgiveness is enhanced a bit. The notched hosel gives these irons a distinctively “Ping” look as well.
While not the cleanest looking irons in the world, the Ping G’s inspire confidence almost immediately.
Of course, we were first impressed by the immediate improvement in apex height over traditional blade irons.
