True Temper Elevate 95 Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

It seems that many golf club manufacturers have adopted the idea that low spin and strong loft are better for distance – and they’re not wrong.

It’s no secret that better players crave low launch and reduced spin to help them crush the ball from the deck and the tee.

However, this trend has left a lot of us everyday golfers holding the bag so to speak. With this emphasis on irons with ridiculously strong lofts, it can be difficult for the rest of us to hang on to greens with our 7 irons.

But True Temper heard our laments and sought to combat this trend with the advent of the True Temper Elevate 95 shaft. The True Temper Elevate 95 is a steel shaft that seeks to restore some height and spin to your irons. But does it really provide all-around performance? Let’s find out.

True Temper Elevate 95 Overview

Maybe combat is the wrong word.

After testing the True Temper Elevate 95, we came to the conclusion that it compliments the low spin, low launch trend that has seemingly overtaken the golf club industry (see virtually any Cobra golf club as proof).

The True Temper Elevate 95 was designed to optimize launch and impart spin to the ball with your irons. It was also designed to impart a smoother and more active feel, which we must say comes through 100%.

Overall, the True Temper Elevate 95 gives the average player more access to a steel shaft that still provides a good amount of accuracy – good but not great.

Why is the True Temper Elevate 95 Shaft So Popular?

The True Temper Elevate 95 has been a hit particularly among mid and high handicap players. Why?

As far as we can tell it’s because this shaft almost feels like a graphite shaft but it is still very accurate.

The True Temper Elevate 95 is light, feels more manageable than a typical steel shaft and best of all: it will actually help you on your long approaches. Short approaches and chip shots won’t go sailing past the green because of an absurdly strong loft and long approaches hold fast greens better with this shaft.

How Does the True Temper Elevate 95 Shaft Perform?

In a word: high. True Temper promises high spin and high launch from this shaft and it certainly delivers.

If you are a mid handicapper, you should have no trouble shaping shots both laterally and horizontally with this shaft – you won’t balloon out of control even with the markedly high launch.

True Temper Elevate 95 Shaft Specs Table

What Flexes Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The True Temper Elevate 95 is available in regular and stiff flex.

The regular flex version will be better for players with swing speeds between 80 and 90 MPH. The Stiff flex version will be better for players in the range of about 85 to 95 MPH.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

You can get the True Temper Elevate 95 in 93 and 94 gram versions.

The difference is pretty much negligible as both feel very light in the hands for a steel shaft. In any case, the True Temper Elevate 95 would be best for players with a max of 95 MPh swing speed.

Why is it So Good?

The answer to this question is subjective. We asked our testers what they liked most about the True Temper Elevate 95 and they came up with different answers.

A lot of our testers liked how smooth the True Temper Elevate 95 felt while other players liked that it was congenial to their deliberate tempo.

True Temper Elevate 95 First Impressions

Anyone with any experience with golf clubs will notice how light the True Temper Elevate 95 shaft is.

Key Features & Performance

One of the most pivotal features of this shaft is the VSS (Vibration Suppression System) technology. This feature effectively dampens excess vibration after ball impact. This is what imparts such a smooth feel to this shaft.

True Temper Elevate 95 Wedges Review

The True Temper Elevate 95 is a wonder for chip shots. It’s much less likely that you will see your ball skip across the green with your strong-lofted wedge if you use the True Temper Elevate 95.

True Temper Elevate 95 Irons Review

We loved the True Temper Elevate 95 with our long irons. Attacking long approaches is much easier as this shaft will help you arc the ball high and land it dead on fast greens. It allows for acute spin control for pretty much every iron in your bag.

True Temper Elevate 95 Driver Review

The True Temper Elevate 95 worked surprisingly well for our testers from the tee.

They allowed our slower swinging testers to almost match the drive distance of our faster swing speed testers. Of course, the True Temper Elevate 95 will not be the shaft you want to use if you have an aggressive tempo and swing speed above 95 MPH; but it’s probably not a bad choice for the drivers of high handicap players.

True Temper Elevate 95 Shaft Pros & Cons

Who Should Buy it?

The obvious answer is anyone with a deliberate swing tempo and a moderate swing speed.

But beyond that, we would say that the True Temper Elevate 95 is an excellent shaft if you’re a mid to high handicapper looking to make a foray into iron shafts.

You get the familiar feel of a graphite shaft with the accuracy of a steel shaft. This is also a great choice to temper your strong-lofted irons.
