True Temper AMT White Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

While the Dynamic Gold shafts are the undisputed top choice for amateurs and pros, the AMT series has been making a lot of noise for the average golfer.

The AMT series actually has good options for both low and high handicappers. Today we will be taking a look at a shaft that may work very well for mid to low handicappers.

It’s the True Temper Amt White and even within this specific series, there are different weight classes to accommodate the needs of a wide array of players.

In the following review, we will be telling you who is best-suited to each weight (and flex) class. We will also be sharing our insights into the performance of the True Temper Amt White after having tested it.

True Temper AMT White Shaft Overview

The first thing you should know about the True Temper AMT White is that it is the lowest spinning and lowest launching entry into the AMT series.

We can attest to this as we experienced low launch and low spin in our testing session. The performance of the True Temper AMT White is also supposed to closely mimic that of the legendary Dynamic Gold series.

We can see that the heavier True Temper AMT White weight class does have a similar feel to the DG shafts; but in regular flex, the difference is pretty stark.

Overall though, we liked the fact that the True Temper AMT White has a consistent tip stiffness. In case you didn’t know “AMT” stands for Ascending Mass Technology.

This means that the long irons are lighter while the short irons are heavier. The mass difference in each iron is 3 grams.

So by the time you get to your scoring irons, you can certainly feel the extra heft. The short irons actually do have a feel similar to the DG shafts – even in the lightest weight class.

You get a clean, crisp feel at impact and a smooth transition. The long irons don’t make you struggle at all.

They are nimble with a mid/high kick point and are light enough to let you maximize your head speed.

Why is the True Temper AMT White So Popular?

For us, we really liked the fact that even as the mass increases as you move down to the short irons, the tip stiffness is uniform throughout the set.

We like that because it allows for better club head control in every iron. So not only are you getting better club head speed, you are also getting better control.

How Does the True Temper AMT White Perform?

The combination of low spin and lighter long irons makes for explosive distance.

Again, we don’t feel like the long irons feel like Dynamic Gold shafts; but for a lot of players, that might actually be a good thing.

That’s because the DG shafts turn off a lot of players who feel that they are doing battle with the long irons with every swing.

With the True Temper AMT White, you don’t get any of that. They make your long irons feel smooth and work with your swing speed and tempo.

For our test session, we used the True Temper AMT White in stiff flex which has a weight range of 106g – 130g. So these were pretty stout irons for sure.

The short irons had a low kick point but the mid and long irons moved the kick point up.

The True Temper AMT White shaft delivers the same piercing trajectory that you would expect from the Dynamic Gold series.

The short irons did feel a bit cumbersome for some of our testers though. The short irons in regular flex have a very stout profile that borders on feeling board-y.

Workability was good throughout the set though. Most of our testers were able to bend the ball how they saw fit even with the long irons.

What Flexes Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

Regular flex would be good for swingers in the 85 – 90 MPH range.

Stiff would be good for 90 – 95 MPH and extra stiff is a good choice for 95+ MPH swingers.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The regular flex weight class (102g-127g) would be good for 85-90 MPH swingers while the stiff and extra stiff weight classes (106g-130g) is better for 95+ MPH swingers.

Why is it So Good?

The True Temper AMT White is a good shaft because it allows higher handicap players to get the kind of spin rates and trajectory that is needed for optimal distance.

The short irons also allow for more accuracy around the pin.
