Titleist TSR1 Fairway Wood Review

Titleist TSR1 Fairway Wood

Many golfers keep their fairway woods for a long time.

Whilst we are quick to change our driver or our irons, the fairway woods tend to be left behind.

I am here to argue that a good fairway wood can be a huge asset to your bag and that you should really invest time in finding the right one.

Titleist took the golf market by storm when they released the TS series of woods and this product line has gone from strength to strength.

Now on the third iteration, the TSR fairway woods are industry-leading and today we will focus on the TSR1. Who is it for and why you need it.

The Titleist TSR Fairway Wood Family

Titleist like to give options.

As a company they make specialist equipment for different skill levels and their fairway woods are no exception.

The TSR1 is the most forgiving of the trio, TSR2 sits in the middle and TSR3 is mainly for shot shaping/control.

Another way to look at it is that TSR1 is for mid-high handicappers, TSR2 is for mid-low (there is also a TSR2+) and TSR3 is for elite ball strikers.

However, that being said, you will find all three of these fairway woods in the bags of tour golfers, take from that what you will.

Who Is The TSR1 Fairway Wood For?

Golfers who aren’t the most confident with fairway woods, for higher handicap players or for those who just want maximum forgiveness, the TSR1 is for you.

This is an exceptional club that maximises distance and gives you more confidence through a larger sweet spot.

The TSR1 also has an ultra-lightweight design. This makes it a fantastic option for those who are looking for help with clubhead speed.

Many seniors, for example, will love the added yardage that this fairway metal can give back to their game.

How Forgiving Is It?

Along with the ultra-lightweight design, it is the forgiveness of this club that makes it a standout product.

The engineers at Titleist redesigned the hosel of this wood to save weight in this region and redeployed it lower and further back in the head, this has been the key to the performance.

This weight shift altered the centre of gravity (CoG) of this fairway wood which makes it much easier to launch the ball efficiently.

This efficient launch is an absolute imperative when it comes to improving forgiveness. They really have left no stone unturned looking for performance here.

Available Shafts

This fairway comes with one shaft option.

That may sound limiting but it is an ultralight shaft and clearly that is important for this club.

The Mistubishi MMT SPEEDMESH shaft is the engine room for the TSR1. There are three regular and one stiff shaft available here for custom fitting.

Don’t mistake this small menu as a lack of choice.

Titleist are underlining the fact that this fairway wood is made for golfers who need help with speed and so want you to play it with one of the lightest and most advanced shafts on the market.

That seems sensible to me.

Is The Titleist TSR1 Fairway Wood Worth It?

If you need a hand with clubhead speed and forgiveness in the fairway wood department then this is absolutely one of the best clubs on the market.

This club has been designed with a player-preferred shape which just makes it look so good behind the ball.

The TSR1 has the power to rekindle your love in fairway woods, it really is that good. It is a club that you will keep in the bag for many years and so is incredibly good value.

So, to answer the question, yes, it is very much worth it. This club is an engineering tour de force.

“You will gain yardage, forgiveness and confidence by putting this in the bag.”

Titleist TSR1 Fairway Wood First Impressions

Titleist TSR1 Fairway Wood2

The weight of the club doesn’t really make sense at first, it is just so light.

As you put the club behind the ball you notice that it has that classic Titleist tear drop shape which really adds to the appeal.

The light grey paint job stands out and just looks fantastic.

Upon hitting the club, the sound is glorious (another thing that Titleist seem to be great at) and the feel at impact matches the sound.

You feel like you cannot miss with this thing and you’ll want to hit ball after ball. You have been warned.

Who Is The Titleist TSR1 Fairway Wood For?

Titleist TSR1 Fairway Wood3

Clearly this is a specialised club that is not going to suit every golfer.

Many will dislike how light the club is but, to be honest, that means that it is not the club for you and probably never was.

This club has been created for those who want as much help as possible with clubhead speed.

The Titleist TSR1 Fairway Wood is for golfers who want speed and forgiveness with their fairway woods.

It is for higher to mid handicapped golfers and especially those with slower swing speeds. Many seniors, ladies and juniors will absolutely love this club for these reasons.

As I said at the start of the article, Titleist make fantastic clubs for specific niches within the golfing world.

This club is no exception and delivers an incredible club for those looking to maximise speed and forgiveness. If this sounds like you then you need to try this club.
