Titleist TS3 Hybrid Review – is it Forgiving for High Handicappers?
“The whole point of using a hybrid club is to make the transition from your woods to your irons less jarring.”
So why are you still struggling with your current hybrid clubs? Maybe it’s time for an upgrade.
The right hybrid will give you the distance you need to land more GIR’s and give you a boost in confidence.
Today we will be taking a look at a hybrid club that may be able to accomplish all that for you.
Now Titleist may not be known for their hybrid clubs, but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t at least check out the Titleist TS3.
The Titleist TS3 comes in 19°, 21°, 23°, and 25° loft versions so right off the bat, you get good options no matter what your level of need is.
We tested the Titleist TS3 hybrid specifically to see if it has anything to offer high handicappers. Will it be a good fit for you? Let’s find out.
The Titleist TS Family of Hybrids
“The TS family of hybrids includes the Titleist TS3 and the Titleist TS2”
The Titleist TS3 Hybrid
- 19, 21, 23 and 25 degree loft versions available
- Pear-shaped head
The Titleist TS3 has a compact head design and a very thin face. This combination makes for good control and great carry distance.
The head is actually more compact than the Titleist TS2.
The Titleist TS2 Hybrid
- 17, 19, 21, 23, 25 and 27 degree loft versions available
- Rounded, symmetrical head
The Titleist TS2 is very forgiving and comes in a wide variety of lofts for players who may be thinking about replacing irons and woods.
It has the same thin face as the Titleist TS3 so it plays very hot.
Thin Face Design
A thinner face means more flexion and better ball speed. The Titleist TS3 certainly delivers on this front.
It also produces a loud crack at impact that sounds very assuring.
The relatively compact, pear-shaped head of the Titleist TS3 hybrid allows for a good degree of workability while still maintaining forgiveness.
You and your fitter will be able to tweak the loft of the Titleist TS3 so you can optimize your carry distance based on your swing.
Is it Good for High Handicappers?
“For a Titleist golf club, the Titleist TS3 is surprisingly forgiving.”
First of all, the face has a boxy shape and a moderately tall profile. So right away, you get really good up and down forgiveness on the face.
Our testers also noticed that the CG placement in the Titleist TS3 was very low. This allowed them to get under the ball and launch it high – even from the cabbage.
Speaking of the cabbage, we also liked that the Titleist TS3 has a nice, smooth sole. It’s a little on the flat side which makes it easier to keep the club head above the turf.
Distance on clean shots was also impressive. With the 21° Titleist TS3 hybrid, our testers were averaging 175.7 yards. The launch was mid-low which was surprising based on the CG placement.
Still, we didn’t ask questions. We could tell that the lower launch was what was contributing to the good distance.
Overall, we like the Titleist TS3 for high handicappers because it will allow them to swing more confidently.
It has great turf interaction as well which will be a big help if you often find yourself in the rough.
That all being said, if you’re looking for max forgiveness, the Titleist TS2 might actually be the better choice.

If you do, you can expect increases in distance and a very sturdy club that will last you for many seasons.

Titleist TS3 Hybrid – First Impressions
“The TS3 has a classically Titleist look at address.”
In other words, it has a clean look. There’s nothing distracting about the color or graphics – it’s just you and the ball.
This is something we’ve always liked about Titleist. Even though the Titleist TS3 hybrid will provide you with enough forgiveness to attack any lie with confidence, it has the look of a club made for pros.
The Titleist TS Hybrid Family
“If you want moderate forgiveness in a workable package, the Titleist TS3 is the ideal choice for you.”
However, we have to impress upon you that the Titleist TS2 hybrid is actually a bit more suitable to high handicap players. It has a larger head profile and comes in a wide variety of lofts.
There is also a tunable weight port so you can spec it up or down to the swing weight that is optimal for you.

Who is the Titleist TS3 Hybrid for?
“The Titleist TS3 hybrid isn’t for the highest of handicaps…”
We’re talking about a handicap range of 12-21. So mid and high handicappers would probably be the target market for this hybrid.
The face is fairly deep so you get a good amount of vertical forgiveness. Lateral misses tend to go off-line; but not by too much.
Still, the Titleist TS3 hybrid will provide you with increased distance even if you’re a high handicapper.
