Titleist T250 Vs Taylormade P790 Irons

Titleist has recently released the new T250 irons and they are in direct competition with the ever popular P790’s from Taylormade.
The hollow body players distance iron category is packed full of quality irons but these two are standing out as the best of the class.
In our testing we found the irons were very close in performance.
The P790’s were slightly lower launching, more distance, more spin and more consistency. The results were very close but we found the P790 to perform slightly better.
Titleist T250 Overview

Titleist has released its new T series for 2025 and the T200’s were upgraded so much that they changed the name to the T250’s.
The irons have removed the somewhat unpopular badge from the back of the T200’s and the result is an amazing look blade like iron that provides more size and forgiveness than the T150’s and T100’s.
The entire T series now has a uniform design which is intentional from Titleist, allowing golfers to seamlessly blend the sets together.
The T250 is middle of the road, Higher flight, more spin and less distance than the game improvement T350’s and more confidence inspiring at address than the more player friendly models.
There is also a high launch version with weaker lofts for slower swing speeds.
The irons are built for a wide range of mid handicappers and anybody that is actively improving at the game.
One difference between the T250 and the P790 is that the blade of the t250 is slightly longer for more confidence at address.
The clubs have the exact same shaft settings by default.
Overall, these irons are made for speed, stability, distance and steep descent angles to stop the ball on the greens.
We have a forged L Face which is v tapered, progressive grooves and max impact technology when you flush the ball with tungsten either side to help with forgiveness.
Taylormade P790 Irons Overview

The P790’s are the best selling irons that Taylormade have ever produced and they created a category all the themselves.
The P790’s are forged faced, hollow bodied, players distance irons, a category which they created by themselves.
They offer distance, feel and consistency while also offering forgiveness to a wide range of high handicappers.
The irons have a thru slot speed pocket, low in the face of the club for mishits that are low and inside is premium Speed Foam Air behind the super thin forged face for moximum overall performance.
There is also tungsten to stretch that sweet spot along the blade.
Overall Comparison
Both Irons offer excellent performance.
If the P790’s are still number 1 in the class, then the T250’s have definitely jumped straight in at number two.
The combination of consistency, speed and ability to hold the greens makes these very popular with golfers who are improving the game and starting to get serious to seasoned mid-low handicappers.
You can buy the P790’s straight up or you can blend together an optimal set from the entire T series to suit your game with a fitting.
We found the T250’s to be slightly higher launch and slightly higher spinning although the results were very close and carry distance was almost identical.
The P790’s were a tiny bit more consistent in our testing but its best to try these two out for yourself, very little to choose between them.

Titleist T250 First Impressions

First impressions are that these are some super clean looking irons that look like blades but provide plenty of confidence at address.
The irons are built for fast ball speeds, high launching flight and steep descent angles to get the ball stopped on the green.
We have a forged L V Taper face which is thinner for more speed and we have the max impact technology sitting the directly behind the face.
We have split tungsten in the heel and toe for a super impressive dispersion on mis hits.
We were really impressed with how consistent the distances we were getting on mishits were from left to right and front to back.
There is minimal offset but its easy to square the face on impact.
The irons are also uniformly designed so that they can be easily mixed and matched.
Well worth check out for all mid handicappers and a few golfers on either side of the spectrum.
A premium product from a premium brand.
Taylormade P790 Irons

Category – Players Distance Irons
Taylormade P790 – First Impressions

The first thing to notice about the P790 irons is the compact, forged heads that come in a shape and style that will suit the better players.
Despite the players feel of the irons, they also come packed with technology that will add distance and forgiveness like the Thru Slot speed pocket, speed foam and inverted cone technology which allows more flex on impact.
The forged irons are actually a hollow construction, filled with speed foam which allows much greater distances to be achieved than the original P790’s and the tungsten weighting keeps the CG low for an easy launch for an iron of this type.
The original P790 irons, released in 2017, were definitely for the players but with the remodeling in 2019 and 2021, these can also be used for mid handicappers looking to test the waters of players irons.
All in all, definitely not for the high handicappers.

Aidan Lehane here, I’m a Mid-low handicap golfer who has made tremendous progress in breaking 90 in just over 1 year of playing golf seriously.
I get out to the course or range as often as possible and review all the equipment I’ve come across on this blog.
