Taylormade Stealth Vs. Ping G425 Driver Comparison Overview

Forged metal has long been the standard for premium drivers. There is nothing quite like the response you get from a driver with a forged face. However, Taylormade is looking to shift that perception with their new Stealth drivers.

The Taylormade Stealth drivers feature 60 layers of carbon in the face topped with a polyurethane wrap. So how does this new tech hold up against a forged driver? Find out the answer to this and other important performance questions in the following comparison overview.

Taylormade Stealth Driver Overview

The Taylormade Stealth driver is an incredibly light driver that still delivers substantial power at impact.

This performance tandem can be attributed to the combination of a carbon fiber face and extreme rear weighting. But how does it feel? It’s hard to describe the feel of this driver. There is a certain amount of friction at point of impact that feels like no other driver we have ever tested.

It has a deep, satisfying sound and feel; but somehow there is less substance. We will say though, that the Taylormade Stealth driver is extremely workable for a driver in this class. Low-face shots produce long, straight and fast ball flight while higher face shots increase spin rates.

Drive distance was almost identical between these two drivers too – the Taylormade Stealth averaged 222 yards while the Ping G425 averaged 224 yards.

Ping G425 Driver Overview

The Ping G425 features a sliding rear weight which, right away, makes it the more versatile driver in this comparison.

The Ping G425 driver also features a forged titanium face which feels outstanding. Even in 2022, there is still no match for the feel of forged metal. Overall, we liked the feel of the Ping G425 driver more than the Taylormade Stealth driver.

That all being said, the Ping G425 plays more like a game improvement driver. It’s long and straight; but lower handicap players would prefer the shot shapeability of drivers like the Taylormade Stealth more. Launch angles were also almost identical between these two drivers.

The Ping G425 had the more satisfying feel and was just slightly longer than the Taylormade Stealth driver on average.

However, the Taylormade Stealth driver was actually a bit more forgiving thanks to the Twist Face architecture. Lower handicap players will also find the Stealth driver more congenial to their level of play.
