Taylormade Stealth HD Irons Review 2023

“If you’re in the market for game improvement irons then you should seriously consider the Taylormade Stealth HD irons. ”

They are some of the latest GI irons from the brand that is renowned for making quality irons for all skill levels.

As soon as you take a look at the Taylormade Stealth HD irons, you can see what you are going to get from them. They look like they launch high and play forgiving – and they do. But that’s not all there is to these irons. We tested them for ourselves to see what kind of value they have for high handicap golfers.

What we found out was a little surprising. Not every high handicap golfer will be able to benefit from these irons. What exactly do they bring to the table and what kind of golfers would they be good for? Let’s discuss it.

The Taylormade Stealth Iron Family

“The Taylormade Stealth HD irons are the more forgiving versions of the standard Taylormade Stealth irons that came out last year.”

The Taylormade Stealth HD Irons

  • 5-LW composition
  • Draw bias

Good slice-stopping irons. The Taylormade Stealth HD irons offer a drastic deviation from the standard Taylormade Stealth iron design. With a wider, and more rounded sole, the Taylormade Stealth HD irons were built to launch higher and help high handicap players keep more shots in regulation.

The Taylormade Stealth Irons

  • 4-LW composition
  • Neutral flight bias

The standard Taylormade Stealth irons feature a shaved toe area. Mass was displaced from the toe and relocated to the sole to lower the CG. These irons are better for players who can make consistent contact with the ball and who want a lower, faster trajectory.

Key Features

Cap Back Design

The Taylormade Stealth HD irons are cavity back irons. However, Taylormade uses a multi-material badge to cover much of the rear cavity. The result is a smooth overall feel, deep sound and better forgiveness.

Progressive CG

The center of gravity gradually gets higher as you work down to the short irons. In the long irons, the CG is nice and low so you can put some air under the ball and maximize carry distance. In the short irons, the CG is slightly higher to give you better spin dynamics around the pin.

Rounded Sole

The soles on these irons can be described with one word: chunky. But beyond the girth, the soles have also been rounded out to promote smooth turf interaction. This feature makes these irons a viable play from the rough and tight lies.

Are They Good for High Handicappers?

“The Taylormade Stealth HD irons are a great choice if you are a beginner or are still scoring over 100.”

The Taylormade Stealth HD irons are certainly good for high handicappers; but more specifically, players who are well above 100. There is almost no workability to speak of with these irons so mid handicappers will want to steer clear of them.

However, if you are having trouble keeping the ball on the fairway and getting good carry distance from apex height, these irons will help tremendously. They are also really good from the rough because of the massive, rounded sole so if you find yourself in the cabbage often, you will want to consider these irons.

Are the Taylormade Stealth HD Irons Worth it?

If your game could benefit from higher launch, then yes.”

One of the most prominent performance aspects of the Taylormade Stealth HD irons is their launch. Although they are relatively strong-lofted, they are tempered with a hefty sole and low CG to help you get the ball airborne.

Another thing to note is the size of these irons. From heel to toe, you get good length and a lot of sweet spot to play around with. Our testers noted that the Taylormade Stealth HD were extremely forgiving and that it was almost impossible to miss the sweet spot.

In fact, many of our testers compared them to hybrid irons. They offer a smooth feel and pretty good distance regardless of your swing speed. In fact, our testers were averaging a distance of 148.9 yards with the 7-iron in this set.

In 20 Words or Less

“The Taylormade Stealth HD irons offer effortless launch and look great for high handicappers behind the ball.”

Taylormade Stealth HD Irons – First Impressions

“The first thing that almost all of our testers noticed about these irons was the width of the sole.”

This is what makes these borderline hybrid irons. The sole looks very chunky both in the bag and behind the ball. For high handicappers, this will likely be a welcome sight. You will feel very confident taking a full swing with these irons and likely increase your striking accuracy.

Tayloramde Stealth Iron Family

“For better players looking for a bit more workability, the standard Taylormade Stealth irons would be a solid choice.”

The standard Taylormade Stealth HD irons have a more traditional iron look at address even as they are cavity backs. Mass has been shaved off of the toe area and repositioned in the sole, right under the sweet spot. So you get rewarded more than usual when you pure the ball. The flight is lower compared to the Taylormade Stealth HD irons and so are the spin rates.

The standard Taylormade Stealth irons will definitely feel better for players with faster swing speeds too. They have a neutral flight instead of the internal draw bias of the Taylormade Stealth HD irons. The standard Tayloramde Stealth irons lack the multi-material cavity badge in the back; but they don’t really need it because forgiveness is not the main emphasis of these irons.

Taylormade Stealth HD Irons Selling Points

  • Steep launch angles
  • Good stopping power
  • They play well from the rough
  • They will help you correct your slice
  • The wide sole looks forgiving behind the ball
  • Great for high handicap players looking to increase accuracy

Who Are the Taylormade Stealth HD Irons for?

“The Taylormade Stealth HD irons will benefit high handicappers and in particular, high handicappers that need to be able to launch the ball high while keeping it on the fairway.”

If accuracy is your main concern, then the Taylormade Stealth HD irons should definitely be on your radar. If distance is your main concern, you may want to look elsewhere. The distance isn’t the main attraction with these irons. Don’t misunderstand, as we have said the distance our testers were yielding with these irons was considerable – just not anything you would write home about.
