It’s been a few years since the launch of the last Taylormade M4 hybrid.

It was clear after testing these clubs side-by-side that the Stealth 2 hybrid was created with more of a focus on forgiveness. The inverted cone face design has been tweaked to cover even more of the face. The Speed Pocket is still intact which is very effective for covering low-face shots.

The Stealth 2 hybrid also uses the V-steel sole that helps to pull the CG downward and improve turf interaction. Indeed, the CG of the Stealth 2 feels lower than the M4. This is likely due to the combination of the V-steel panel and the internal weight pad.

The Stealth 2 has a more forgiving profile; but distance was comparable to the Taylormade M4.

We were very surprised at this since the profile of the Taylormade M4 resembles more of a traditional iron than the Stealth 2 does. Still, turf interaction and launch were very smooth and shots from the cabbage were easy.

However, the Taylormade M4 is not as forgiving as the Stealth 2 on lateral mis-hits. While it does have an earlier iteration of the inverted cone face design and the Speed Pocket, the profile is more compact so heelside mis-hits were punished with sub-optimal launch and erratic spin rates.

We liked the simple design and look of the Taylormade M4 hybrids when we first opened them up.

We were pleased when we found out that playing them was as easy as it looked like it was going to be. All-in-all, the Taylormade M4’s may lack workability and a lot of the fancy features of more expensive hybrids; but they are certainly comfortable to swing and user-friendly.

The M1’s feature a rear, 27 gram sliding weight that you can position to the draw, neutral or fade positions. With an adjustable loft sleeve in tow, the Taylormade M1 is much more versatile than the M4 and M2 hybrids.

Who is the Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid for?

We were a little disappointed with the spin rates and the high launch compared to the Stealth 2 Plus hybrid. But the standard Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid definitely checks more boxes. While it isn’t as long as the “Plus” version, it is playable for more types of golfers.

It is truly a rescue club from the rough and it will allow skilled players to actually attack the pin from tight lies. It feels and sounds nice when you pure the ball and you don’t lose much ball speed when you mis-hit.

Who is the Taylormade M4 Hybrid for?

The Taylormade M4 hybrid would be great for anyone looking for a combination of distance and forgiveness.

This is as classic a game-improvement hybrid as you’re likely to find. Distance and forgiveness are the main focuses here but another thing we really liked about these hybrids is that they are easy for pretty much anyone to pick up and play.

They have a familiar and confidence-inspiring feel and weight to them. Again, they are lacking in terms of workability and precision – we have even played longer hybrids. But will they benefit high handicappers and help them get to the green quicker? Absolutely. You can pick up the Taylormade M4 in 3H-5H.
