Taylormade Stealth 2 Vs Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood Comparison Overview

It seems like it’s getting harder and harder to find the right kinds of clubs for your golf game.

In our humble opinion, this is because major golf club manufacturers are using the same kinds of technologies and features to produce their clubs.

Golf clubs from different companies seem to be going through a kind of amalgamation that makes it more difficult for consumers to discern their differences. To help though, we are continuing our series of comparison overviews with the following comparison of the Taylormade Stealth 2 and Cobra Aerojet fairway woods.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Wood Overview

“The Stealth 2 fairway woods have a feature that you would expect from Taylormade: carbon fiber.”

In this case, carbon fiber was used to make the crown. This helps reduce weight which is then relocated to the rear of the club. As you can imagine, this gives the Stealth 2 fairway woods a low and deep CG. The goal for these clubs seems to have been launch above all else.

The V-Steel sole panel further serves to pull the CG down and produce steep launch angles. Steep launch angles usually equal steep descent angles and that was certainly the case for our testers. The Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods are excellent for attacking long par 4’s and 5’s. Better players will love the stopping power from range and higher handicappers will love the forgiving twist face and profile.

Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood Overview

“The Cobra Aerojet fairway woods also feature a carbon fiber crown to the ends of lower CG.”

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? The Cobra Aerojet fairway woods have a similar body composition to the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods. However, they stand out a bit more by utilizing a forged face insert. The face insert has also been milled to various thicknesses to promote forgiveness.

What you end up with is a moderately forgiving fairway wood that feels stupendous. The apex height of the Aerojet fairway woods was also comparable to the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods. The suspended rear weight in the Aerojet woods also helps to brace the lightweight head.

“While stopping power and distance were similar between these woods, the Aerojet had a much nicer overall feel and was more consistent overall. The Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods are good if you need higher launch from your woods.”

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Woods – First Impressions

“Our first impression of the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods was that they didn’t really change much from the last Stealth offering.”

And while this assessment was generally astute, we can’t fault Taylormade for it. That’s because what they did change was how forgiving the Stealth fairway woods are. Forgiveness and feel have definitely been improved since the original Stealth Fairway woods and that’s really what high handicap players will be looking for.

“The Standard Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods will be a great option for mid and high handicap players.”

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Plus fairway woods are the only ones that don’t have a C300 face construction. Instead, Taylormade used titanium, which isn;t bad; but it just doesn;t feel as responsive as the C300 steel faces that the standard and HD versions have. The HD version has the biggest head though at 200cc (3 wood).

Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood – First Impressions

“There is nothing about the design of the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods that really blew us away.”

It has a clean look behind the ball, which is certainly a good thing. But even on paper, there isn’t enough that’s new about the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods compared to their past woods that really got the blood pumping for us.

Still, it is surprisingly workable and is a good fairway wood for attacking the pin on long par 4’s and 5’s.

The Cobra Aerojet Fairway Family

“If you’re looking for the most forgiveness, the Cobra Aerojet Max is a good choice.”

Better players will naturally gravitate to the exceptionally low-spinning Cobra Aerojet LS fairway woods. The LS version also launches low so players with faster swing speeds will definitely find it to be the best distance wood of the three new versions.

Who is the Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood for?

“At the end of the day, mid handicappers would probably get the best use out of this fairway wood.”

At least, that was the case for our testers. Our high handicap testers really liked the forgiveness of these fairway woods; but they weren’t able to work them as masterfully as some of our better testers. The good thing about the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods is that they yield consistent distance almost regardless of your swing speed.

Again though, mid handicappers will love the controllable spin and launch of these woods.
