Taylormade Stealth 2 Driver Review 2023 – The Latest In Carbon Wood Technology

The Stealth driver cause a lot of rucus in the golfing world in 2022 with its big red carbon face and the Stealth 2 continues the trend with more carbonwood than Titanium for the first time.

Today we are going to find out whether Taylormade is doubling down for performance reasons or out of stubborn pride.

We found the original stealth to be a bit hit and miss in terms of accuracy but if you got it flush it flew for miles.

The red face remains but the color is less popping due to the gloss that now covers it, although it contains 60 sheets of twist face carbonwood.

If you don’t like the red, don’t worry, the My Stealth is also available in a variety of colors.

They’ve also included a carbon fiber sole in 2023 for extra MOI and forgiveness alongside a carbon composite ring around the back to reduce and redistribute weight.

They’ve managed to squeeze in the inverted cone technology from their irons to increase the “Fargiveness” on off center strikes.

The drivers have gotten a bit of a makeover too, they look better than the original Stealth and that shelf appeal should turn into bottom line sales for Taylormade.

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Driver Family

Like the new Callaway Paradym, The Taylormade Stealth comes in 3 variants.

The Stealth, for most golfers. The Stealth+ is the lowest spin model and the Stealth 2 HD is the draw bias model for slicers.

The  Stealth 2+ Driver

  • Available Lofts: 8.0, 9.0, 10.5 Degrees
  • Adjustability: Sliding 15g Weight, Loft +/- 2 Degrees, Lie angle

A 15g Sliding weight allows the player to adjust for their particular shot type. It is the lowest spin model offering the most distance and this is the driver we expect to see on tour.

When you catch it flush, expect this one to come out hot.

The Stealth 2 Driver

  • Available Lofts: 9.0, 10.5, 12 Degrees
  • Adjustability: Loft +/- 2 Degrees, Lie angle

Configured out of the box to offer the perfect blend of distance, forgiveness and launch angle.

The loft is still adjustable by +/- 2 Degrees and the lie angle can also be adjusted.

The 25g weight at the back of the club, improves MOI and distance in this driver, which is the all rounder of the family.

For us we found the driver to be more forgiving than the original Stealth but still a bit unpredictable in terms of distance and dispersion.

The Stealth 2 HD Driver

  • Available Lofts: 10.5, 12 Degrees
  • Adjustability: Loft +/- 2 Degrees, Lie angle

The Stealth HD driver is built with a draw bias which will help a higher handicap golfer who tends to slice the ball.

This is the highest launching and highest spin version of the driver which will shave off some distance but should keep the ball from veering off the right.

From our testing, it was a bit too high flying and we were hitting with a big draw but it can definitely be a good option for golfers and worth testing out in the fitting bays.

Key Features:

60X Carbonwood Twist Face

60 sheets of high strength carbon have been pressed together to produce the Stealth. It is a bit less vibrant with the new glossy cover and has been toned down a bit.

The top line has also been straightened out at the behest of Colin Morikawa to help golfers line up their shots more accurately.

When you catch it flush, it flies for miles.

Inverted Cone Technology In The Face

Taylormades inverted cone technology has made its way from their irons into their drivers, thanks in part to their carbon weight savings.

The has the effect of better ball speeds and straight shots from the toe or the heel.

Taylormade understood that the original Stealth was a bit unpredictable for regular golfers, despite doing well on tour.

The Stealth 2 is all about accuracy and not adding much in the distance arena. The Paradym drivers from Callaway are longer.

Inertia Generator

A tungsten weighting at the back of the club not only increases the shelf appeal but also increases the MOI for perfect launch conditions and increased distance.

Carbon Everywhere

The Stealth 2 uses 75% more carbon than its predecessor.

This is a high strength, light weight material that frees up weight to be place elsewhere for performance.

The sole is now Carbon, the crown is carbon and there is an injection molded carbon composite ring around the back of the club that reduces weight, looks great and improves the weight distribution of the clubs.

Sound And Feel

To make Carbon work for Taylormade, they need to ensure it not only performs as well as Titanium but it sounds and feels just as good too.

The Stealth 2 certainly feels powerful and the sound pops a good bit more than the original Stealth.

Is it Good for High Handicappers?

The Stealth 2 plus should be useful for High Handicappers because it is highly adjustable.

The Stealth HD will suit high handicappers who slice the ball and those with slower swing speeds.

For us, it wasn’t the most accurate driver in the game but its up to each golfer to get a fit a fitting and test out any number of drivers to see what’s best for their game.

Available Shafts

  • Fujikura Speeder NX
  • Fujikura Ventus TR
  • Diamana Kai’Li

Is the Taylormade Stealth 2 Worth it?

The Stealth 2 is an improvement on the Stealth in terms of accuracy sound and feel.

We still feel however that Titanium is the better material for most golfers at this stage.

Having tested the Taylormade Stealth, The Callaway Paradym and the Cobra Aerojet so far in 2023, we have to say that the Stealth 2 comes in 3rd place.

For the price tag, there are also a plethora of used drivers offering excellent value.

If the Stealth 2, with all of its configurations and shelf appeal, comes out as the best option for you after a fitting then by all means go for it.

The price tag is a bit much for us in terms of the quality you are getting.

It is not the longest and not the most accurate driver but is likely to suit a large number of golfers at the same time

If you can game it better than other drivers and have a good budget, then it is certainly worth it.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Driver

In 20 Words or Less

Taylormade have doubled down on Carbon again in 2023 with 75% of the material than the original and they’ve focused on accuracy over distance for the newer models.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Driver – First Impressions

“The new Stealth 2 drivers have a ton of shelf appeal, three version to choose from and plenty of Carbon in the face, permieter, sole and crown.

The carbon face has 60 sheets of the ultra strong material and it is covered in a glossy finish which makes it a little less vibrant than the original Stealth.

Inside the face is the inverted cone technology, usually reserved for Taylormade irons, which adds forgiveness on off center hits.

Forgiveness, accuracy and dispersion has been the focus of the Taylormade drivers this year. The original Stealth was great for tour players who had it dialed in but it was a little bit wayward for regular golfers.

The Stealth 2 is a little bit erratic still and it’s not as long as the Callaway Paradym or Cobra Aerojet for 2023 either.

That being said, these drivers look great in the bag and there are 3 variations to choose from.

If these drivers can help you to keep the ball on the fairway then they will be a boon for any golfer, its important to get a fitting to see what works best for your game.

The inject molded Carbon reinforced ring reduces weights which is redistributed with an inertia generating tungsten weight at the back of the club . This leads to higher MOI and increased distance.

The Taylormade acoustics team has also been busy throughout the year ensuring the sound and feel are on point with the new drivers and they do feel more powerful on impact.

When you catch the drivers flush, they fly for miles, especially the plus model, but we found off-center hit to be a little bit left and right in testing.

Perhaps if we had more time to test we could have dialed them in better as there is plenty of adjustable. The + has a sliding 15g weight and the loft can be increased or decreased by 2 degrees on each club alongside the lie angle.

The top line is also a little bit straighter at the behest of tour pro, Colin Morikawa.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Family

3 versions to choose from in the Stealth 2 family.

The Stealth 2 plus will the driver used on tour by pros like Colin Morikawa and Rory Mcilroy.

The 15g adjustable sliding weight ensures you can get this one perfect for your swing.

It is also the longest and lowest spinning.

The Stealth 2 HD is the draw bias driver which will help higher handicappers who are dealing with a slice.

It is also the highest launching and highest spinning, with the least distance

The Stealth 2 is the middle ground which should be the best driver out of the box with mid launch, mid spin and mid distance.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Selling Points

  • Tighter Dispersion off the tee
  • Improved sound and feel
  • Tons of customization options
  • Can get custom colors with My Stealth
  • HD version should work for a slice
  • More shelf appeal than the original Stealth

Who is the Taylormade Stealth Driver For?

“The Stealth 2 will suit every golfer from the average sunday slugger to top tour pros in the game”

The Stealth 2 has a couple of things going for it.

The price point is $100 less than the Callaway Paradym driver.

It has more shelf appeal than the original stealth and it is more forgiving, with a tighter dispersion.

The move to carbon may pay dividends for Taylormade in the future, but they are not the longest or most accurate for us at the moment.

A club fitting is going to be your best option to see what the best driver is for your game.

The HD version will suit the slicer but it may not be for every golfer.

We found the Stealth 2 to be a little bit erratic in terms of distance and accuracy, but for some golfers, it may be the best option for their game.

The Plus model is the one that will suit most golfers as it can be dialed into your exact swing with the 15g adjustable weight.

Overall, these are a step from Taylormade but there are a ton of competing drivers to take your hard-earned cash in 2023.

Distance: 93/100

Accuracy: 94/100

Forgiveness: 94/100

Feel & Control: 94/100

Overall Score:  94/100
