Taylormade SIM2 Vs. Taylormade M2 Driver Comparison Overview
For many golfers, the SIM and SIM2 drivers from Taylormade are the spiritual successors to the very popular Taylormade M drivers. We wanted to test this theory for ourselves so we went out and played both of these drivers at the range.
While the Taylormade M2 and the SIM2 drivers were similar in many ways, we got some other important insights into them as a result of our testing. Take a look at what we found in the following comparison overview.
Taylormade SIM2 Driver Overview
The main feature of the Taylormade SIM2 driver is the inertia generator which works to increase both distance and forgiveness.
The inertia generator is something we’ve seen before in the Taylormade M6 driver. In the M6 though, the inertia generator housed a massive weight. In the SIM2 driver, the weight is tuned down to just 16 grams of steel.
Like the M6, the SIM2 features the Twist Face technology that helps correct mis-hits. When we tested the SIM2, we were taken aback at how easy it really was to get straighter shots. The SIM2 has some of the same features as the Taylormade M2 as well.
For instance, it has the Speed Pocket which allows the face to hinge to a high degree. However, the SIM2 has some upgrades like a milled back face cup and a forged aluminum ring which ups the ante in terms of feel and consistency.
Taylormade M2 Driver Overview
The Taylormade M2 driver is basically a very stripped down version of the SIM2.
It does have some features that made it all the way to the SIM2 though which is part of what gives this driver such high value even after all this time. For instance, the Taylormade M2 features the Speed Pocket and low-rear CG.
The Taylormade M2 also features a nice 9-1-1 grade titanium body and a carbon fiber crown. The M2 and SIM2 both have an adjustable loft sleeve as well. The most important difference between these two drivers though is that the M2 produces lower spin rates; but is less forgiving overall.
Also, the Taylormade SIM2 was the longer driver by an average of 7 yards. The extreme rear weighting and the low CG also make it the more forgiving driver even as it produces more spin off the tee. Each would be good for mid to high handicappers.

Taylormade M2 First Impressions
The first thing we noticed about the Taylormade M2 driver was how light it felt and how well it cut through the air on the downswing.
This driver will feel really good for anyone with a slower swing speed. It cuts through the air like a dream and delivers smooth, buttery contact when you pure it.
The M Family
The M2 is joined by the M6 and M4 drivers. The M6 more closely resembles the SIM drivers from Taylormade as it has an even more pronounced rear weight. The M4 is a bit more subtle but does have a more satisfying sound and feel than both the M2 and M6.
Sim 2 Driver – First Impressions
The first thing you notice about this driver is the large and the attractive, colorful design with advanced features popping out of every crevice in the driver.
The club is surprisingly light and the sweet spot is so big, you cant imagine hitting anything but a straight shot.
If slices are a problem for you in your game, the Max D version is almost guaranteed to iron that out of your game and if you want to opt for a more playable driver with extra distance the Sim is perfect. For us the Sim Max was a happy in between to hit.
The ultra thin steel face is speed injected for maximum distance and the Sim 2 is among the longest drivers in the game right now, but the thru slot speed pocket is also amazing at increasing the size of the sweet spot when hit low on the face.
The forged ring construction and carbon fiber sole delivers some of the fastest swing speeds in the game today.
It also has the inertia generator for higher MOI and split mass weighting, including a 16g steel weight and the back of the club for an incredible, long accurate and forgiving driver, used by some the world’s best players including Dustin Johnson.

The Taylormade M2 is definitely more for beginners and high handicappers.
If you are looking for help getting your swing speed up or are having trouble staying on the fairway, the Taylormade M2 would be a better choice for you. It’s lightweight, produces very straight shots and yields good ball speed even when you hit out near the toe.
