Taylormade SIM2 Vs Cobra Radspeed Hybrids Comparison Overview

Taylormade SIM2 Vs Cobra Radspeed Hybrids

Taylormade was the first company to introduce hybrid clubs (they dubbed them “rescue” clubs) to the world so it’s only natural to lean towards Taylormade if you’re in the market for a new hybrid.

But before you make a decision, you should consider the fact that since then, many companies have come out with hybrids that go beyond what Taylormade has done. One such company is Cobra.

But are their hybrids really better than Taylormade hybrids? To find out, we are comparing some of their most popular hybrids.

Taylormade SIM2 Max Hybrid Overview

“The smaller cousin of the SIM2 Max Hybrid, the standard SIM2 is a sleeker club that is more reminiscent of an iron.”

The great thing about the SIM2 hybrid is that you get the forgiveness you would expect from a hybrid with the control of an iron.

The Taylormade SIM2 is available from 2H to 4H and features the same V-Steel sole panel and C300 steel face that the SIM2 Max does.

So right off the bat, the Taylormade SIM2 is a great rescue club. If you’re looking for a hybrid that will get you out of the cabbage in one stroke, the Taylormade SIM2 is definitely the better option.

It launches high and provides excellent turn interaction.

However, the Taylormade SIM2 doens;t play as long as the Cobra Radspeed hybrids.

The spin rate on the SIM2 is definitely higher than the Radspeed hybrid which hurts its overall distance.

Cobra Radspeed Hybrids Overview

Cobra Radspeed1

“The Cobra Radspeed hybrids are available from 2H to 5H and feature 119cc heads.”

The Cobra Radspeed hybrids also offer pretty smooth turf interaction thanks to hollow baffler rails. They perform really well from the deck and are no slouches from the tee either.

In fact, with the 4H in this set, we were averaging drives of 198.7 degrees.

The Cobra Radspeed hybrids also feature a small forged face insert. When you pure the ball, you get incredible response and apex height.

Plus, it feels really nice too. And of course, the radial weighting with a total of 12 grams of weight in the front makes for great distance and incredible carry.

“The Taylormade SIM2 hybrids are definitely the more forgiving hybrids and stay true to their rescue origins.

The Cobra Radspeed hybrids would be a better choice if you need longer hybrids for excellent distance.”

You can feel the technology on every hit, the club just slides through the turf. The ball speed is incredible.

Taylormade SIM2 Max Hybrid First Impressions

The first thing you will notice is how naturally the CG pulls your swing down.

Overall this was a very comfortable hybrid club to swing. It comes in hybrids 3-7  so you get a nice range depending on what your game needs.

And of course, you will surely be impressed by the distance of this hybrid club even if you are a high-handicapper. While we would say that it’s not quite suitable for use off the tee, it sure is close.

The SIM2 Hybrid Family

Included in the SIM2 line is the SIM2 Max. If you think the SIM2 was forgiving, wait until you try the SIM2 Max. It has a larger footprint and sweet spot and yields the same impressive distance with the same shot-corrective face curvature.

Another asset of note with the SIM2 Max Hybrid is that it performs better off the tee.

We usually don’t use hybrids off the tee but the Taylormade SIM2 MAX 3H was providing comparable distance off the tee to our drivers.

Cobra Radspeed Hybrid First Impressions

At address position, we love the way the hybrid sits on the ground, the paint lines and face line up fantastically giving you confidence when standing over the ball.

We loved the way the hybrid interacted with the turf, on every shot it felt like the club went through the ground with ease. This is due to the hollow rails in the Radspeed. It creates up to 70% more flex on the sole of the club creating a higher launch and more speed.

You could feel the front-biased radial weighting working, as the forgiveness was incredible.

The feeling off the face was something we have never felt. The forged face really does work, and makes every shot feel fantastic.

The Cobra Hybrid Family

The Cobra Radspeed also comes in a one length option. The Cobra one length range is very interesting, led by Bryson DeChambeau on the PGA Tour who plays with one length clubs.

The one length concept is great, but you have to have the swing to match it. Your swing has to be on one plane, if it is not, your longer and shorter irons will become impossible to hit.

All the same technology you find in the standard Cobra Radspeed Hybrids are also in the One length versions.
