Taylormade SIM Max Vs. Taylormade M6 Driver Comparison Overview

Taylormade has a lot of great, forgiving drivers to their name. Their distance drivers are the stuff of legend.

But if you are looking for straight shots and long drives, which of their many drivers would be best for you?

In our continuing quest to help high handicappers become low handicappers and get more people to enjoy the great game of golf, we present you with the following article that will help you decide between two very popular Taylormade driver models.

Taylormade SIM Max Driver Overview

The Taylormade SIM Max driver is loaded with forgiveness features that will benefit 99% of beginner and high handicap players.

Getting right into it, the Taylormade SIM Max features the slight face curvature that helps correct mis-hits and slices. There is also an adjustable hosel sleeve that we found was really helpful for opening or closing up the face depending on what each of our testers needed.

Taylormade also added the inverted cone face construction which moves the sweet spot out towards the toe. Aside from all this, the SIM Max is very comfortable to swing and the CG is placed nice and low for great launch and forgiveness.

The SIM Max is also accompanied by the SIM Max D which has an even larger sweet spot and is even more forgiving than the standard SIM Max.

Taylormade M6 Driver Overview

The Taylormade M6 also has an extreme rear weight that is even heavier than the rear weight of the SIM Max.

The Taylormade M6 also has the curved face architecture and while both of these features certainly do help with forgiveness, the SIM Max just does a bit more. For instance, the Taylormade M6 is lacking the inverted cone face design and has a smaller, more centralized sweet spot.

It’s also lacking an adjustable hosel so some versatility is lost. In terms of distance, if you have a fast swing speed, you should have no trouble with the Taylormade M6. But if you are shopping either of these driver you probably don’t have a fast swing speed.

Overall the Taylormade M6 played only slightly shorter than the SIM MAX though – about 3 yards on average.

Ball speeds were even a bit better with the SIM Max so all things considered, we are inclined to say that the Taylormade SIM Max would be better for almost all high handicappers.

However, after you take the first swing and feel how the inertia generator effortlessly pulls the CG downward, you will be hooked.

The SIM Family

Who is the Taylormade M6 for?

The Taylormade M6 would be a great choice for high to mid handicappers.

You get a good amount of distance and forgiveness help with the Taylormade M6 driver. The twist face does make it difficult to work. So just like with the M4 driver, the M6 is not an ideal choice for more seasoned players.

We also really like how the weight pulls your swing down ever so slightly to produce high launch. The extreme rear weight also helps distribute energy from your swing all over the face so you still get pretty impressive ball speed when you miss the sweet spot.
