Taylormade Sim 2 Vs Callaway Mavrik Irons Comparison And Review
A head to head between two of the titans of golf clubs in the industry, Taylormade & Callaway.
The brand new Sim 2 irons from Taylormade are aiming to be the best performing game improvements irons on the market right now and they come very close.
The Callaway Mavriks were released in 2020 and we can have no doubt that they are among the top performing irons in the game right with interations for higher and lower handicap players also available
Taylormade Sim 2 Max Overview
The Sim 2 carry on an impressive lineage from Taylormade, starting with the M series and culminating with the Sim Max irons which preceded the Sim 2’s.
the immediate difference you can notice in the Sim 2’s is the Cap Back technology which makes the clubs more solid, longer hitting and more forgiving.
Also included is the Echo Dampener, submerged within the irons that eliminates any unwanted vibrations for fantastic feel in the clubs.
Progessive ICT and the Speed pocket make the sweet spot on these irons massive and you can rest assured that any player can make great use of these irons at any level.
Callaway Mavrik Irons Overview
The Callaway Mavrik Irons are similar to the Sim2’s with slightly different technology holding the clubs together.
Worth noting about the Mavriks is that they also come in Max form which is more forgiving and pro form for the lower handicap players.
The 360 flash face with variable thickness promotes stunning distances and forgiveness in a massive sweet spot.
The weighting is distributed by artificial intelligence and the COG is low, with excellent turf interaction.
These irons have everything you need from a game improvement/players distance iron.
The Sim 2 Max irons and the Mavriks are very similar, they both even have options for higher handicap players.
For the beginner or higher handicap player, I would suggest the Sim2’s and for the high to mid handicappers I would say it is a 50/50 cal, leaning towards the Mavriks.

Sim 2 Max – First Impressions
Immediately noticeable on these irons is that they look pretty similar to the Sim Max irons but the Cap Back technology does stand out as being more solid.
We weren’t expected much difference in performance either and turned out to be true as well, the Sim 2 Max are slightly longer and lower launching than their predecessor which shows an incremental improvement but nothing overly major to write home about.
The echo dampener and cap back does make these irons feel a good bit smoother in the shorter irons and you can really get a good command of the ball with the forged feeling face.
Thru slot and ICT technology ensure the sweet spot is large and playable and that is another feature that we enjoyed about these clubs.
Overall the clubs do mark an improvement over the Sim Max in terms of distance, feel and control and we recommend giving these clubs a shot before committing to a purchase, because the Sim Max are still competitive and may be available for a keener price.
Callaway Mavrik – First Impressions
The Callaway Mavrik Irons look amazing and deliver a ton of distance and accuracy with low dispersion between strikes.
Each Iron is crafted using Artificial Intelligence that ensures the weighting is in the optimal position and that these Irons maximize their potential.
They have 360 Face Cup technology which allows for some flex in the iron face on impact resulting in maximum ball speed and distance.
The clubs have a lot of loft, allowing you to get the ball in the air while Tungsten Weighting, keeps the center of gravity low in these irons and the Urethane Microspheres reduce vibrations on off center hits.
These are excellent Game Improvement irons from 2020 that come at an affordable price.

Aidan Lehane here, I’m a Mid-low handicap golfer who has made tremendous progress in breaking 90 in just over 1 year of playing golf seriously.
I get out to the course or range as often as possible and review all the equipment I’ve come across on this blog.
