Taylormade P790 2025 Edition Irons Review
The Taylormade P790 irons are out and they’ve been released early with Taylormade moving the release from the summer to the Spring.
Taylormade are boasting about a number of technological and design improvements that we will cover in today’s review and we will check these out on the Trackman to crunch the numbers.
Taylormade P790 (2025 Edition) Overview – What’s New
New Face Material
Taylormade have improved the forged face metal in the new 2025 P790 irons.
They are now using a 4340M face metal which is 20% stronger and lighter, which allows for significant improvement throughout the rest of the club.
Most of all it’s allowed Taylormade to increase the size of the sweet spot by 24% which is quite a large improvement.
Individual Club Head Optimisation
As the 2023 model was so good and the P790 is the best selling Taylormade iron of all time, it’s difficult to make changes on the entire set level.
To combat this, the Taylormade R & D team have been looking at each club individually for optimisations.
The CG has been lowered in the Long irons and moved higher up in the mid to short irons for more precision with every club in the bags. Taylormade are calling it the FLTD CG system.
The Sole Improvements
The Sole Geometry in the 2025 irons has also been improved to cut through the turf more easily.
The sole has increased curvature from the toe to the heel to increase the overall size of the sweet spot.
The leading edge is also strongly more beveled in the mid to short irons to cut through that turf even more effortlessly but this is hidden from the player at address where the clubs look amazing.
Design Tweaks
The Top line has been made slightly thinner arising from feedback from the players and customers. The logo has been moved from the heel to the center.
The tour satin finish and mirror polishing effects make these clubs have even more shelf appeal than previous models.
Tighter internal structures
Taylormade have tightened up the internal structures of the clubs on an individual club basis to improve the sound distance and feel of these excellent irons.
Taylormade P790 Performance Testing
The 2025 irons do produce more ball speed than the 2023 model. With the gained .4 of mph in ball speed with the new model. The spin was down by just over 300 RPM.
The launch angle was slightly lowwer too. The carry and the distance were both up by 2 to 3 yards.
Bit of give and take in the performance but they are amazing irons, we did notice a tighter dispersion in our strikes and overall, definitely a worth iron for 2025 and beyond.

Taylormade P790 – First Impressions

The first thing to notice about the P790 irons is the compact, forged heads that come in a shape and style that will suit the better players.
Despite the players feel of the irons, they also come packed with technology that will add distance and forgiveness like the Thru Slot speed pocket, speed foam and inverted cone technology which allows more flex on impact.
The forged irons are actually a hollow construction, filled with speed foam which allows much greater distances to be achieved than the original P790’s and the tungsten weighting keeps the CG low for an easy launch for an iron of this type.
The original P790 irons, released in 2017, were definitely for the players but with the remodelling in 2019 and 2021, these can also be used for mid handicappers looking to test the waters of players irons.
All in all, definitely not for the high handicappers.
