Taylormade P770 Irons Overview
The Taylormade P770’s have a sweet feel at impact thanks to a forged steel face and a hollow-body design.
Of course, when you hear “Taylormade” and “hollow-body design” mentioned in the same sentence, you automatically think “Speedfoam.”
Indeed, the Taylormade P770’s feature Taylormade’s patented Speedfoam which helps smooth out the feel at impact.
The long irons in this set also feature plenty of internal tungsten weight which gives them plenty of oomph from the deck as well.
If you are concerned about distance you should know that the Taylormade P770’s played longer than the T200’s.
The Taylormade P770’s feature a muscle back design, short blade length and compact head so they have the look and feel of a player’s iron.
Titleist T200 Irons Overview
The Titleist T200’s also have a muscle back design, minimal offset and compact heads. They also perform exactly as you would expect a player’s iron set to.
Acute short-game control and spin is where the T200’s shine the brightest. While they are shorter than the Taylormade P770’s, they do a better job helping your short game.
With that being said, the T200’s may be more congenial to lower handicap players who don’t have trouble making consistent contact.
In fact, the more mediocre testers in our party (certainly not I) were having trouble getting any kind of significant distance with these irons.
The L-shaped, forged face insert certainly helps if you tend to bottom the ball. The T200’s also have superior turf interaction compared to the Taylormade P770’s.
Overall though, you should be mainly concerned with tightening up your short game if you are considering the T200’s. That’s where they’ll help the most.
We like the Taylormade P770’s for mid handicap players while we would recommend the Titleist T200 irons for players in the 0-5 handicap territory.

Taylormade P770 First Impressions
The first thing you will notice is the clear line of site you have to the ball thanks to the limited offset of these irons.
When you first take a look at the Taylormade P770 irons, you don’t automatically think distance.
That’s because they lack most of the visual features of your typical distance irons.
You will probably think that they are great for accurate approaches, shaping shots and higher spin rates; but not so much for distance.
After you take your first swing with 7 iron though (featuring 33 degrees of loft) you will be able to feel the speedy engine behind these irons which have a softer feel.
The Taylormade P770 irons feature a forged hollow body design that allow for maximum face flex.
The face is forged from 4140 carbon steel and is wrapped seamless style around the body which is also made from carbon steel.
You also get a whopping 46 grams of tungsten to fortify the sweet spot and launch the ball high and with workability.
Just because these are mid to low handicap player irons doesn’t mean that Taylormade has left out additional forgiveness features.
For instance, the ICT technology is progressive throughout the set which means that you get an optimized sweet spot location as you work down the set.
The Taylormade P770 have to be swung to believe. They look like players irons but they also have a lot of forgiveness features.
Not quite as long as some other irons but plenty else on offer with the P770’s.
Titleist T200 First Impressions
You can tell just by looking at them that the Titleist T200 irons are player’s irons
The first thing you will notice about these irons is the size of the head. The Titleist T200 feature a player’s profile shape and a very thin topline. However, the Titleist T200’s also have strong lofts which becomes apparent pretty quickly.
You wouldn’t expect the high level of feel that you get from these irons just by looking at them though. The engineered muscle back plates are tuned to enhance feedback and feel while at the same time dampening unwanted vibrations.
The Titleist T200 can surprise in terms of forgiveness and distance too. While certainly not the longest or most forgiving irons in the T series, the L-shaped face insert helps expand the sweet spot out towards the toe.
What advanced players will be able to enjoy almost immediately is the feel from the forged face insert. These irons give an unmistakable forged feel that low handicappers will go crazy for.
The “Max Impact” polymer insert also helps out with ball speed. It acts as a springboard behind the face to push the ball further and faster. The only catch is that you pretty much have to hit the ball dead-center to benefit from the Max Impact insert.
The Titleist T200 feature a unique combination of features that mostly improve feel and accuracy.

Who Are The Taylormade P770 Irons For?
The Taylormade P770 are for mid to low handicappers who are looking for a good combination of feel, distance and workability.
If you want to take a step up in terms of performance from your Big Bertha’s, P790ti’s and other distance irons, the Taylormade P770 irons would be a good next logical step.
They are a great combination of workability and shaping shots without compromising much in either department.
They produce mid-level range spin which can be a problem in the long irons but is a benefit in the shorter ones.
So they’re certainly not perfect but they strike a good balance between distance and accuracy.

The P Series From Taylormade
The P series of Taylormade irons run the gamut from pure distance to pure feel to pure accuracy and everything in between.
While only the P790 irons can be considered more distance irons, the P series is mostly focused on the performance that mid to low handicappers need on the course.
In fact, every other line of irons in this series rocks a mid-level range spin so you can control roll around the green and on approaches.
The P7MB and P7MC iron sets offer the highest degree of accuracy and workability if that it your aim.
