Taylormade M6 Vs. Taylormade M4 Driver Comparison Overview

The Taylormade M4 and the subsequent Taylormade M6 drivers were always meant to offer mid to high handicap players more forgiveness and distance. The M4 debuted in the States in 2018 and was followed up about a year later by the M6 in 2019.

As you can imagine the former model is now cheaper than the latter. And since you already know that both of these clubs are designed for forgiveness and distance, it may be helpful to hear about some of the other performance details if you are considering one.

In the following guide we will be going over the most important details of these drivers in a side-by-side comparison. Does the more affordable M4 hold more value for you? Is the M6 really new and improved? Find out in the following article.

Taylormade M4 Driver Overview

The M4 driver features a lot of the staples that make Taylormade clubs so coveted among pros and amateurs alike.

By now, the Taylormade M4 is already nearly 4 years old but you wouldn’t know it by taking a look at the specs and features. The M4 has a lot of features that newer Taylormade drivers have.

These features include the twist face curvature that helps straighten out mis-hits and helps reduce your slice. Of course, like any good Taylormade driver the M4 features the speed pocket which enhances face flex at impact.

What is not so commonly known about the M4 driver though is that it feels and sounds amazing for a driver in it’s category. The acoustics on this driver sound amazing; but only when you pure the ball so keep that in mind.

Taylormade M6 Driver Overview

The M6 ups the ante in almost every respect. Almost every feature that the M4 has, the M6 has improved upon.

They also added more features to this driver. Much like the SIM drivers that are now extremely popular, the Taylormade M6 driver features an “inertia generator” which is really just a 46 gram weight placed in the extreme rear of the club head.

As gimmicky as this may seem at first, it really does take the forgiveness and distance factors of this driver to the next level.

While we will get into more detail later, for now we want to say that there is a noticeable and almost immediate difference between these two drivers.

The Taylormade M6 driver is slightly more expensive but for once, we are of the opinion that a manufacturer has really made the upped price worth the consumer’s while.

A great starting point for anyone looking for forgiveness and distance from the tee.

Taylormade M6 Driver

In 20 Words Or Less

The Taylormade M6 does a little more of everything that the M4 driver does.

Taylormade M4 First Impressions

The M4 driver looks great at point of address with a nice, beefy 460CC head.

Right away, the M4 looks great for beginners and high handicapper – or anyone with a slower swing speed in general.

We were also really impressed by the way this driver sounded and felt. You will find that the M4 really helps straighten out your drives as well. One of the caveats with this driver though is that launch angles were slightly lower when compared to the M6.

The M Family

Another worthwhile entry into the Taylormade M driver family is the M2 which is an extremely lightweight driver that features a multi-layer carbon crown and titanium body.

Taylormade M6 First Impressions

The Taylormade M6 certainly looks more intimidating than the M4at first glance but once you pick it up you can feel how light and wieldy it truly is.

The Taylormade M6 features a carbon sole to help offset the additional 46 grams of weight placed in the back of the head. It was very comfortable to swing and we got an instant boost in distance.

The M Family

The M6 is joined by, of course, the M4 and the M2. By comparison, the M2 is a bit lighter than the M6 but ultimately plays shorter.

Taylormade M4 Selling Points

  • Speed Pocket
  • Twist Face technology
  • Very affordable
  • Great sound
  • Good feel
  • Produces straight shots

Taylormade M6 Selling Points

Who is the Taylormade M4 Driver for?

The Taylormade M4 would make a great driver for anyone who is on a bit of a budget but still wants significant help with forgiveness.

Keep in mind though that if you really want to prioritize distance, the M4 played about 13 yards shorter than the Taylormade M6 driver on average.

The forgiveness of the M4 driver is at least on par with that of the Taylormade M6 driver though. And we actually think that the M4 sounds and feels better when you strike right on the sweet spot.

Also, it should be noted that the M4 is not so much for lower handicap players. The workability is minimal and if you have a faster swing speed, you might actually lose some distance with this driver.

Who is the Taylormade M6 for?

The Taylormade M6 would be a great choice for high to mid handicappers.

You get a good amount of distance and forgiveness help with the Taylormade M6 driver. The twist face does make it difficult to work. So just like with the M4 driver, the M6 is not an ideal choice for more seasoned players.

We also really like how the weight pulls your swing down ever so slightly to produce high launch. The extreme rear weight also helps distribute energy from your swing all over the face so you still get pretty impressive ball speed when you miss the sweet spot.

Feel & Control: 92/100

Accuracy: 94/100
