Srixon Soft Feel Vs. Titleist Pro V1X Golf Balls Comparison Overview

Just how much distance would a faster swing speed player lose off the tee if he/she were to use a distance ball?

Does the “tour-grade” label actually mean anything in terms of driver distance? We wanted to find out for ourselves, which is why we tested these two balls against one another.

For this comparison article, we focused mostly on driver distance but we will also add some short-game notes to give you a more complete picture of what these balls bring to the table.

Srixon Soft Feel Golf Balls Overview

The Srixon Soft Feel balls are distance balls but we found that our faster swing speed players were still able to use them to their advantage.

For this test, we only included data from players averaging swing speeds of 100 MPH or higher. Much to our surprise, there wasn’t very much distance lost with the Srixon Soft Feel balls.

The average distance landed at 268 yards while the max reading was a staggering 273 yards.

The Srixon Soft Feel balls have a lesser ionomer cover and feel only slightly softer than the Pro V1X balls off the club face.

The Srixon Soft Feel balls had a spin rate very similar to the V1X balls off the tee. The only downside was that the spin stayed low for all our clubs.

Of course, the Srixon Soft Feel balls will not be as much as a benefit to your short game as the Pro V1X balls will.

However, our jaws were on the floor when we saw what the Srixon Soft Feel balls could do off the tee.

Titleist Pro V1X Golf Balls Overview

Right off the bat, the Pro V1X balls played longer for our fast swing speed testers; but not by very much.

The average distance with the Pro V1X balls was 279 yards while these balls topped out at 289.

So there is a considerable distance between max distances but as you can see, the average distance disparity is not as large as you would think.

Still, the Pro V1X’s do have a more satisfying feel off the face and in terms of short-game performance, there is no comparison.

While the Titleist Pro V1X balls will still be the preferred choice for low handicappers, we feel that the Srixon Soft Feel balls perform above their class in terms of driver distance.

Performance Off the Tee

The Srixon Soft Feel balls performed very well off the tee, yielding our testers an average drive length of about 250 yards.

Performance from the Rough

This is where we were pleasantly surprised with the Srixon Soft Feel balls.

They have an impressive launch angle even if you aren’t really that great at being angle to work the ball.

This helps not only in the rough; but when you need to maximize carry distance and get over hazards and trees.

Performance from the Fairway

Again, the easy launch of these balls will be a great asset with your mid-irons off the deck.

Don’t expect a lot of spin from your shorter irons though.

Performance Off the Tee

The better testers in our party were getting average drive distances of about 195 but they were topping out at 209!

The Titleist Pro V1X balls don’t produce much side spin off the tee which allowed for piercing trajectories that didn’t fly too high either.

Performance from the Rough

We were seeing low trajectory shots from the rough which is a good and bad thing.

It’s bad when you need to get over hazards but good for staying under trees and trying to avoid the wind.

Performance from the Fairway

We really liked the low, piercing trajectory of the Titleist Pro V1X balls with our long irons and hybrids.

Better players will be able to backspin these balls sublimely while being able to avoid low rises.

Who are the Srixon Soft Feel Balls for?

These balls will work great for any high handicapper who wants to balance out the softness of their balls but still prioritize driver distance.

We really liked the fact that the Srixon Soft Feel balls were soft without feeling insubstantial. There is some concern about their durability; but that’s to be expected from a distance ball at this price point.

How are they with Short Irons?

While they are certainly lacking side spin and overall short-game control, the high launch will definitely be an advantage with your short irons and your wedges.

It’s easy to pop ‘em high and hang on to fast greens.

On the Green

You kind of have to strike them harder than you normally would with other balls to get the roll you need on longer putts.

Who are the Titleist Pro V1X Balls for?

The Titleist Pro V1X are certainly for low handicap players who want a combination of distance and short-game control.

Keep in mind that these balls have a ridiculously high compression which will surely affect the feel from tee to pin. If you have a good swing speed though, this should be no problem.

How are They With Short Irons?

We are extremely biased towards urethane as a ball cover material. Urethane gives you an unmatched feel and softness that really comes into play when you’re dealing with a ball as firm as the Titleist Pro V1X – especially with short irons.

You get to work the ball deftly with these balls thanks to the high compression core and urethane cover.

On the Green

The roll control is there with  these balls although we would say that they feel a bit dead off the putter face.
