PXG 0211 Vs. Taylormade SIM 2 Driver Comparison And Review

Both the PXG 0211 and the SIM 2 drivers have been developed to give beginner to intermediate players more help from the tee.

They are touted as easy to swing, forgiving and to have superior feel. That’s all well and good but what about accuracy? What about long-term value?

After all, you won’t be a beginner player forever so which driver is more likely to grow with your game as you advance.

Find out by reading our side-by-side comparison analysis of the PXG 0211 and the Taylormade SIM 2 drivers.

PXG 0211 Driver Overview

The PXG 0211 driver comes from a manufacturer that is used to making clubs for low handicappers.

That’s typically a good sign if you are looking for long-term value and the PXG 0211 didn’t disappoint.

The PXG 0211 offered a surprisingly harmonious combination of forgiveness and premium features that will be of value to you later on in your golf journey.

It starts with a premium titanium alloy face that flexes well along the perimeter for forgiveness. But when you hit it dead-center, you get incredible distance.

Since there is nothing but low CG weighting, it can be worked fairly well too – although you can’t really do much about the high launch angles.

Of course, for beginners, high launch angles aren’t such a bad thing which is another testament to how well this driver marries beginner usability and long-term value.

Taylormade SIM 2 Driver Overview

The Taylormade SIM 2 actually produced lower-arcing shots, faster ball speeds and more distance than the PXG 0211.

We were impressed with this driver right off the bat. It plays long and is amazingly forgiving thanks to the 16 gram weight placed way on the back of the head for insane MOI.

The front weight also helps keep spin and launch low off the tee.

However, the twist face technology doesn’t really allow you to work the ball at all. And the SIM 2 had the opposite problem of the PXG 0211: it could naught but produce low-arcing shots.

So it will be up to your preferences.

We feel like both of these drivers do a good job of coupling immediate distance/forgiveness help with long-term value.

However, we think the PXG 0211 driver will benefit players more as they get better, making it the slightly more favorable option in our humble opinions. It also had a nicer overall feel.

The PXG 0211 driver also features an adjustable hosel in a club that is a bit more forgiving than its 0811 counterpart.

Sim 2 Driver – First Impressions

The first thing you notice about this driver is the large and the attractive, colorful design with advanced features popping out of every crevice in the driver.

The club is surprisingly light and the sweet spot is so big, you cant imagine hitting anything but a straight shot.

If slices are a problem for you in your game, the Max D version is almost guaranteed to iron that out of your game and if you want to opt for a more playable driver with extra distance the Sim is perfect. For us the Sim Max was a happy in between to hit.

The ultra thin steel face is speed injected for maximum distance and the Sim 2 is among the longest drivers in the game right now, but the thru slot speed pocket is also amazing at increasing the size of the sweet spot when hit low on the face.

The forged ring construction and carbon fiber sole delivers some of the fastest swing speeds in the game today.

It also has the inertia generator for higher MOI and split mass weighting, including a 16g steel weight and the back of the club for an incredible, long accurate and forgiving driver, used by some the world’s best players including Dustin Johnson.

PXG 0211 First Impressions

We were excited to see an adjustable hosel in what is essentially meant to be an entry-level PXG driver (if such a thing exists).

After the first swing, we were taken aback at how soft and smooth this driver felt. We credit this to the railed sole design which increase MOI but also adds stability by bracing the heel and toe.

The honeycombed polymer insert in the head doesn’t hurt either. Plus, the fact that you can shape shots better with the adjustable hosel actually makes this driver a great value.

PXG 0211 Driver – Who is it for?

The PXG 0211 driver is actually more forgiving than the 0811 so it would be more suitable for mid handicap players that need a little help with shot shaping.

We love the fact that PXG paired a high forgiveness driver with an adjustable hosel. While this driver still isn’t as forgiving as some Callaway and Taylormade entries, it is one of the most forgiving drivers that PXG has ever produced.

All in all we would say that this would be a suitable driver for a mid handicapper that already knows how to shape shots based on the nature of the hole.
