PXG 0211 Vs. Callaway Mavrik Driver Comparison And Review

The Callaway Mavrik has been the standard for game-improvement drivers for a handful of years now while the lesser-known PXG 0211 is kind of the new kid on the block.

PXG is an ambitious company though, and they have already made their mark in the sport.

The PXG 0211 is billed as a driver for the everyday golfer and looks to dethrone models like the Callaway Mavrik.

So we wanted to see just how much of a contender the PXG 0211 was against the likes of the Callaway Mavrik.

PXG 0211 Driver Overview

The PXG 0211 driver features the classic premium appointments of a typical PXG club but with enhanced forgiveness features.

Our overall impression of the PXG 0211 driver was that it was surprisingly well-balanced. While it doesn’t do any one thing outstandingly well; it gives you a little something of everything.

For starters, it has a premium feel thanks to the titanium alloy face.

The PXG 0211 offers a decent degree of forgiveness as well. Since the face flexes a lot near the crown, toe, heel and sole, you will get more ball speed on mis-hits.

The adjustable hosel offers moderate shot-shaping and bias correction capability as well.

While you can’t really do much about the high-arcing shots because of the rear/low oriented weighting of the PXG 0211, this shortcoming of workability will surely help high handicappers increase their carry distances.

Callaway Mavrik Driver Overview

The Callaway Mavrik was designed to swing fast and offer a high degree of flex across the face.

The good news is that it does all of that. The bad news is that’s pretty much all it does. The Mavrik does play fast thanks to the innovative aerodynamic head design and the carbon fiber crown.

The SS20 Flash Face is also made of a lightweight, thin titanium.

However, you get an unstable swing from this driver on almost every shot. In fact, it’s sort of hard to get a straight shot out of the Mavrik.

If you don’t have any trouble squaring up and finding the sweet spot on your drive then you will get along just fine with the Mavrik. Otherwise, things could get frustrating.

The Mavrik was almost unworkable so in the end, even while the PXG 0211 doesn’t amaze in any one category, we think it’s the better driver – for beginners and intermediate players.

The PXG 0211 driver also features an adjustable hosel in a club that is a bit more forgiving than its 0811 counterpart.

Mavrik Driver – First Impressions

Once you get passed the bright colors and attractive design, you can immediately see how light and wieldy the Mavrik drivers really are.

The face on the club is huge and it gives you the confidence you need to let the driver rip, even on the first tee with a crowd gathered to watch. The face is also ultra thin, ultra light special steel which sends the ball into orbit on contact.

Two internal jailbreak bars on under side of the club hold everything together by connecting the sole with the crown and adding extra stability, feel, consistency and distance. The shape of the driver is also aerodynamic and like everything with the clubs, focused on more swing speed.

The Different Mavrik Driver Versions:

The Mavrik is for your average player or mid handicapper, medium levels of forgiveness, and mid spin. This one has a standard launch angle too.

The Mavrik max is similar with more forgiveness and a higher ball flight for higher handicappers

The Mavrik Pro has a 450cc head, less forgiveness and spin and higher emphasis on distance for low handicappers and fast swingers.

PXG 0211 First Impressions

We were excited to see an adjustable hosel in what is essentially meant to be an entry-level PXG driver (if such a thing exists).

After the first swing, we were taken aback at how soft and smooth this driver felt. We credit this to the railed sole design which increase MOI but also adds stability by bracing the heel and toe.

The honeycombed polymer insert in the head doesn’t hurt either. Plus, the fact that you can shape shots better with the adjustable hosel actually makes this driver a great value.

PXG 0211 Driver – Who is it for?

The PXG 0211 driver is actually more forgiving than the 0811 so it would be more suitable for mid handicap players that need a little help with shot shaping.

We love the fact that PXG paired a high forgiveness driver with an adjustable hosel. While this driver still isn’t as forgiving as some Callaway and Taylormade entries, it is one of the most forgiving drivers that PXG has ever produced.

All in all we would say that this would be a suitable driver for a mid handicapper that already knows how to shape shots based on the nature of the hole.

Distance: 93/100

Accuracy: 92/100

Forgiveness: 95/100
