PXG 0211 DC Irons Vs Callaway Big Bertha B21 Comparison And Review

The Callaway Big Bertha B21 irons are the most forgiving that the company produces. They were designed specifically for forgiveness and distance.

Meanwhile, over at PXG, their engineers wanted to make a set of irons that offered a good combination of forgiveness and performance.

That’s how they came up with the PXG 0211 DC irons. Both the PXG 0211 DC’s and the Big Bertha’s are basically predicated on forgiveness. But which set is better overall? Find out in the following comparison.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Irons Overview

The Callaway Big Bertha B21 irons are loaded with features that will help high handicappers get to the green faster

As soon as you pick one of these irons up, you will see why they are called Big Bertha’s. The sole is super-wide and the blade lengths are very long. We also found that it was very easy to square up on most shots with the B21’s because of the pronounced offset.

It’s not all about size with these irons though. The Big Bertha’s sport Callaway’s energy core system which utilizes custom-sized tungsten weights for every iron in the set. We found that the heftier weights were good for achieving optimal launch angles in the long irons.

On the other side, the tungsten weights provide a decent amount of spin robustness in the smaller irons.

PXG 0211 DC Irons Overview

The PXG 0211 DC’s are some of the most forgiving PXG irons we have ever tested.

In fact, we were getting ball speeds comparable to the ones we were getting with the B21’s – and that’s on shots away from the sweet spot! Speaking of the sweet spot though, our testing concluded that the B21’s played an average of a ridiculous 8 yards longer than the PXG 0211 DC’s when struck perfectly.

Still, the PXG 0211 DC’s have the Big Bertha’s on feel. They are made with an incredibly thin miraging steel but backed up with a dual core of soft polymer. So while the face flexes almost wildly, you don’t get any harsh vibration thanks to the polymer.

The PXG 0211 DC’s did spin better around the pin. We were able to hold on to fast greens with the PXG 0211 DC’s better than we were with the Big Bertha’s.

In general, you will find that the Big Bertha’s are more forgiving and longer than the PXG 0211 DC’s.

PXG 0211 First Impressions

We didn’t think that the PXG 0211 irons were going to perform much differently than other PXG irons we have tested based on the muscle back design.

However, they did. There was a slight improvement in overall feel and forgiveness. We tested the 4 and 5 irons first and found that we were getting better ball speed on shots around the crown and sole than with other models.

The vibration dampening properties of the COR2 insulation also made the long irons more comfortable on full swings. The PXG 0211 irons also produce pretty good launch angles thanks to moderately generous loft.

The short irons didn’t offer much in the way of workability though. Although, that might not be such an issue for beginners and high handicappers. Still, this is something you may want to consider if you plan on investing in the PXG 0211 irons as a long-term set.

Big Bertha B21 – First Impressions

The B21’s take on the legendary name of the Big Bertha series and these irons are super forgiving and easy to hit.

The Irons have been designed using Artificial Intelligence that ensures the very best weighting and features are included for maximum accuracy and forgiveness.

The clubs also have wide soles and a pronounced offset that ensures you get tons of forgiveness even when you don’t hit the ball flush on the sweet spot.

The clubs have a lot of loft, allowing you to get the ball in the air while the Tungsten Weighting keeps the center of gravity low.

You shouldn’t have any problems getting the ball in the air with these Irons.

Who are the PXG 0211 Irons for?

While the PXG 0211 irons are billed as forgiving game-improvement irons, we have our doubts.

Yes, high handicappers and beginners will love the soft feel of these irons. Additionally, the low spin rate in the long irons means that high handicappers will be able to get down the fairway quicker.

However, these irons won’t do much for a high handicapper in terms of accuracy. If you are struggling to produce straight shots with your irons, don’t expect much help from the PXG 0211 irons.

In reality, the PXG 0211 irons would actually be better-suited to mid-handicap players.

If you aren’t having much trouble finding the sweet spot with your irons then the PXG 0211’s would be worth a look.

The 0211 Family

Included in the 0211 series of irons from PXG are the 0211 DC and 0211 ST sets. The 0211 DC irons feature a dual layer of polymer inside the head which helps preserve the maximum amount for energy. These are most certainly distance irons for high to mid handicappers.

The 0211 ST irons on the other hand have a solid-body design and have been triple forged for exceptional feel and enhanced workability. These blade irons feature a muscle back design and offer exceptional greenside spin control which makes them ideal for low handicap players.
