Ping i500 Vs. Ping i525 Irons Comparison & Review

If you are ready to step up to  premium set of Ping irons then you probably have some questions. We love Ping but so many of their iron models resemble each other in a lot of ways. Choosing between similar models can be very difficult – even we have a hard time keeping up.

That’s why we wanted to go out and compare two similar Ping iron models. In the following comparison overview, we will tell you what you need to know about the differences and copious similarities between these two iron sets.

Ping i500 Irons Overview

The Ping i500’s look gorgeous. With a muscle back design and a player’s performance head profile, they are hard to resist.

These are some of the cleanest-looking muscle back blade style irons we have ever seen – and they’re made from forged stainless steel! The faces are made from aerospace grade maraging steel which is one of the thinnest metals in the world.

Indeed, the i500 irons play long and fast. The ball explodes off the face quickly which is both a good and bad thing. It’s good because it increases ball speed. But some of our testers noted a lack of feedback. The ball launches so quickly and dynamically that you can’t really predict the flight.

The Ping i500 irons also feature milled grooves and hydropearl finish to repel water. We didn’t test them in wet conditions but this is a feature we know from other Ping models and it actually works.

Ping i525 Irons Overview

The Ping i525 irons are also made from forged steel and feature a maraging steel face.

And, like the i500 irons, the Ping i525’s have a player’s performance head profile, hydropearl finish and tightly milled grooves. The key difference between these two models is that the Ping i525 irons have extreme perimeter weighting.

There is tungsten in the toe and in the shaft tip. This drastically increases MOI and makes the Ping i525 irons slightly more forgiving than the i500 irons. Naturally, our higher handicap testers took more of a liking to the Ping i525 irons than the i500 irons but admitted that the i500’s looked better.

If you’re a lower handicapper and can do without some feedback, we recommend pocking up the Ping i500 irons. If you need some added forgiveness and are in the mid handicap range, we recommend the Ping i525’s.

Ping i525 Irons – First Impressions

The first thing to notice about the Ping i525 is the sleek looking players shape at address while the soles are still thick enough to offer distance and a towering ball flight.

The hollow body ‘Ballistic face’ construction hasd Polymer injected strategically on the inner side of the 14-7 stainless steel face for an enhanced sound and feel.

Perimeter weighting in the toe, with a visible screw and the shaft strectch the sweet spot and the face in dynamically created to deliver excellent balls speeds.

These irons feel and sound amazing but you are not going to get the same levels of feel as you will with the players irons.

Due to the higher launch and 4 extra grooves being added to the club, there is more workabilty in the longer irons and control in the shorter irons.

The player profile looks really nice in the i525’s at address, very similar to a players iron but it delivers on ball speed with the dynamic, miraging steel construction.

The hydropearl 2.0 ensures these irons perform well in wet as well as dry conditions and the additional flex in the face completes an excellent new set of Hollow Body Players Distance Irons.

Ping i500 Irons First Impressions

The first thing that struck us about these irons was the smooth and buttery feel.

The Ping i500 irons feature forged maraging steel faces and it’s hard to beat the feel of forged maraging steel. On full swings with the long irons, the forged faces play hot while minimizing harsh impact. With the short irons, you get the spin control and feel you need to score.

The heads of the Ping i500 irons are slightly smaller than the Mavrik Pro’s so they have more of a player’s look. Also, these are muscle back irons.

The Ping i500’s also sport milled grooves in the shorter irons which imparts excellent spin control.

We liked the overall performance afforded by the more thoughtful and involved design of the Ping i500 irons.

These hollow boyd irons live up to their reputation and a worth a look for any superior ball strikers looking for a blend of ditance, feel and forgiveness without giving the full soft feel of a real players iron like the i59.

The i525 Family of Irons

The i525 is set to be the only new iron release from Ping in 2022 but it does pack quite a punch and if you have been looking for more distance from a players or maybe want to tip your toes in the players iron market, this are a great choice.

The i59 irons which came out last year have a thinner profile again resulting in more workability, less feel and less distance.

You wont go too far wrong with the Ping i525 irons.

Who are the Ping i500 Irons for?

The Ping i500 irons are for low handicappers between 0-5. They provide the kind of stopping power on the green and spin control that advanced players will appreciate.

Plus, the Ping i500 irons have the feel of a premium set of player’s irons thanks to the C300 maraging steel face embedded into the 17-4 stainless steel body.

This combination gives these irons surprising distance that is actually comparable to the long irons of the Mavrik Pro’s. The only hang-up is you have to be more accurate with the Ping i500 irons – they are not as forgiving as the Mavrik Pro’s.

The i Family

Included in the “i” line from Ping is the Ping i210 which is a bit more forgiving. The downside is that it lacks the forged face that the Ping i500 irons have. You get less feel but more help with face contact.
