Ping i240 Vs G440 2025 Comparison And Review

Ping i240 vs Ping G440 Irons TL;DR
Ping have released the i240’s in 2025, an upgrade on the i230’s usually meant for low handicappers and pro’s while the g440 is a chunky game improvement iron, built for distance, forgiveness and consistency in poorer strikers.
The i240 are now high launching and more forgiving with the cavity back, lower COG and slightky enhanced forgiveness, still for better players.
The G400 is lower, long and has less spin than the i240. Its great for getting the ball down the fairway or towards thegreen but doesnt have as much accuracy as the i240’s.
Ping G440 – The Game Improvement Iron
The G440’s are for high handicappers and mid handicappers who havent got around to replacing them yet.
They are made by Ping, so we are assured of quality and the irons even hold their value well.
The G440’s are big and chunky game improvement irons, built for getting consistent results for golfers who need a bit of help with their accuracy.
They are long and straight with more offset than the i240’s. They have variable face technology and the face is thin.
The heads are more compavt than the G430’s which came before them but still very forgiving and long. with the wedges getting a work around for higher launch and better stopping power.
Ping i240 – The Forgiving Players Iron

The i240’s are players irons which much more compact heads than the G440’s. They are shorter, higher launching and with more spin and workabilty for better golfers.
We now have elastomer in the club head which saves 8grams of weight which is redistrubuted to lower the COG and we have more forgiveness in the multi material cavity badge on the back of the irons.
The are much more accurate than the G440’s with an incredibly tight dispersion both front to back and left to right.
Overall
If distance, consistency is your goal, go with the G440’s but if you are looking to get closer to the pin and be more accurate with your irons as a low handicapper, pro or mid handicapper with consistent striker, the i240 is the better option for elite players.
The G440’s are better for most golfers.

Ping i240 First Impressions

The Ping i240’s replace the 2022, i230’s and the big change is that they are a little more forgiving while still maintaining that compact body of a players iron.
They are not forged, so they wont cost you a fortune and the sound and feel is so good, that you would easily mistake them for fully forged irons.
We have got Elestomer inside the club which saves 8 grams of weight which is redistributed to lower the COG and produce a higher ball flight, espicially with the longer irons.
These are not the longest irons, they are for Low handicappers and pros mainly but may even suit some mid handicappers now with the extra forgiveness.
We got really tight dispersions from these irons from front to back and left to right.
Overall a quality iron for better players that comes with three separate loft specs: Standard, Retro & Power.

Ping G440 Irons First Impressions

The first thing to notice about the Ping G440’s is that the head has a much more player friendly profile with a shortened blade height and length.
The face is thinner too and the Pur Flex Badge is visible smaller and less cavity like. The Top Line is still thick enough to inspire confidence but its also camoflaged to give that players friendly feel.
The longer irons have longer shafts which is great for distance and launch, especially if you are going with the power spec lofts. Plenty of Mid to Low Handicappers will fancy these Long Irons.
The visible Tungsten screw remains and this stretches the sweet spot along the face and you will barely notice any difference in performance when you slightly miss the center and the slight offset remains too to combat a slice.
The Hydropearl finish has also been upgraded and the result is irons that look a lot nice in the bag.
The G440’s are a worthy upgrade of the G430’s and will be extremely popular in 2025 and beyond.

Aidan Lehane here, I’m a Mid-low handicap golfer who has made tremendous progress in breaking 90 in just over 1 year of playing golf seriously.
I get out to the course or range as often as possible and review all the equipment I’ve come across on this blog.
