The Ping i240 Irons Reviewed – Classic Players’ Precision Meets Cavity Back Forgiveness

Ping doesn’t change their players’ irons very often, and when it does, it usually has big boots to fill. The new i240’s irons replace the popular i230’s (2022) and the much-loved i210’s before them.

The i240’s continue the lineage but they add a high launch and more forgiveness to the party with the new i240’s.

They look great and have traditional Ping features, they are compact with an amazing sound and feel even though they are not forged.

Ping i240 Irons Overview

The i240 is very much a players design, they’re just slightly more forgiving across the face now.

The i230’s were popular on the PGA Tour, on the LPGA tour and with low handicappers while the i240 opens that up to consistent mid handicap strikers as well.

At first glance, the i240s look beautiful: compact head shaping, a refined Topline that’s a little chunky, and not much in terms of offset.

That being said, they’re not as compact or demanding as the Blueprint irons, sitting in a sweet spot between pure players’ iron and more forgiving, game improvement, cavity backs.

Control And Accuracy Over Distance And Power

If you are looking for maximum distance with a ton of forgiveness, the i240’s are not the ones for you.

These are shorter, higher and with a steeper descent angle to hunt the pins with accuracy on the course.

Ping have listen to PGA tour players who often get in bulkier long irons to compliment a players set but there is no need with the i204’s.

The long irons are higher launching and more forgiving than they were in the i230’s.

These irons are stable and consistent across the face, which feels great even though it’s not forged.

The dispersion were getting with the 7 iron and pitching wedge was really impressive even with the mishits included.

Forgiveness & Playability

Despite the players’ iron label, the i240 isn’t that intimidating to hit. Indeed, the head isn’t anywhere as big as the G440 or even the i530.

If you are making good connections consistently, the irons will suit you game, even if you are a mid handicapper.

We see the Ping tungsten screw in the head as usual and the hinge at the back of the heel for flexibility and lie angle.

The includes a 3-iron all the way utility wedge, and it comes in three different lofts, Standard, Retro and Power to suit all swing speeds, ladies and senior golfers. Great for mix and matching too.

Final Verdict – Who Are They For?

The i230 would have been strictly for low handicaps, PGA Pros and LPGA players.

With the addition of the higher launch and extra forgiveness, we could see mid handicappers taking their first step towards a players like iron with the i240’s.

The irons feel great and deliver that crisp Ping look and feel. The price tag is not outrageously high either making the i240’s a hit with plenty of golfers from Tour Pros, to Mid – Low handicappers.
