Ping i210 Vs. Ping i525 Irons Comparison & Review

The I series of irons from Ping tends to cater more towards low handicap players. Almost the entire family features smaller, compact heads with minimal offset so right off the bat, they don’t look great to high handicappers at address.

But that’s not really who they are made for anyway. Case in point: the Ping i525 and i210 irons. This was an interesting juxtaposition because the i210 irons seem to barely fit into the player’s performance category so let’s take a look.

Ping i210 Irons Overview

The Ping i210 irons have face inserts that are said to increase contact by 25%.

The inserts themselves are made from a soft elastomer material that gives the longer irons a soft feel. Indeed, our mid and high handicap testers were making more consistent contact with the long irons in the i210 set.

Some of the lower handicap testers in our party noted a lack of side-to-side workability however. And almost every tester in our party noted that these irons were heavier than the Ping i525’s. Still, the turf interaction was nice and smooth with the i210 irons.

In fact, if we had to describe the performance and the feel of these irons with just one adjective, it would certainly be “smooth.”

Ping i525 Irons Overview

The Ping i525 irons have a premium look and more premium appointments than the Ping i210 irons.

The first thing we have to talk about is the aerospace-grade maraging steel face they used to make these irons. The Ping i525’s play hot and fast. The maraging steel face hinges to push your ball. They launch quick and high.

Too quick, in fact. Some of our testers noted a significant lack of feedback. Overall though, they loved the feel, distance and short-game performance of these irons. The Ping i525’s also feature milled face grooves to help control launch angles in the short irons.

If you’re looking for a set of scoring irons, the Ping i525’s will fit the bill nicely. The polymer injected into the side of the face also gives these irons a pleasant sound at impact. The sound is akin to a low-end click – very satisfying overall.

The Ping i525 irons represent an excellent combination of forgiveness, distance and short-game control. The i210 irons are pleasant to swing and provide a surprisingly large sweet spot. We still like the overall performance of the Ping i525’s more though.

Ping i525 Irons – First Impressions

The first thing to notice about the Ping i525 is the sleek looking players shape at address while the soles are still thick enough to offer distance and a towering ball flight.

The hollow body ‘Ballistic face’ construction hasd Polymer injected strategically on the inner side of the 14-7 stainless steel face for an enhanced sound and feel.

Perimeter weighting in the toe, with a visible screw and the shaft strectch the sweet spot and the face in dynamically created to deliver excellent balls speeds.

These irons feel and sound amazing but you are not going to get the same levels of feel as you will with the players irons.

Due to the higher launch and 4 extra grooves being added to the club, there is more workabilty in the longer irons and control in the shorter irons.

The player profile looks really nice in the i525’s at address, very similar to a players iron but it delivers on ball speed with the dynamic, miraging steel construction.

The hydropearl 2.0 ensures these irons perform well in wet as well as dry conditions and the additional flex in the face completes an excellent new set of Hollow Body Players Distance Irons.

Ping i210 Irons First Impressions

We tested the Ping i210’s after the i59’s and we were taken aback at how much the Ping i210 irons kept up with the seemingly more premium set.

Of course, you get the forgiveness from the elastomer insert which makes more contact space on the face. Mid handicappers will also like the larger head of the Ping i210 irons.

But the machined face grooves are really where a lot of the gap between these irons is made up. You get surprising side spin control in the shorter irons of this set – just like with the i59’s.

That being said, you will need a swing speed of about 92 MPH or above to make long par 5’s with these irons. Neither the Ping i210 irons or the i59’s play long enough to write home about.

The Ping i210 irons performed valiantly when compared to the i59’s but it’s hard to ignore the absence of the feel that comes from a soft carbon steel forged body.

The i525 irons are for mid to low handicappers who want a beautiful, compact players profile combines with extra distance and more forgiveness.

These hollow boyd irons live up to their reputation and a worth a look for any superior ball strikers looking for a blend of ditance, feel and forgiveness without giving the full soft feel of a real players iron like the i59.

The i525 Family of Irons

The i525 is set to be the only new iron release from Ping in 2022 but it does pack quite a punch and if you have been looking for more distance from a players or maybe want to tip your toes in the players iron market, this are a great choice.

The i59 irons which came out last year have a thinner profile again resulting in more workability, less feel and less distance.

You wont go too far wrong with the Ping i525 irons.

Who are the Ping i210 Irons for?

The Ping i210 irons are better for mid handicap players who may be having a bit of trouble making consistent contact with the ball.

Of course the head size helps in this department but it was obvious during our testing that the elastomer insert also makes significantly more face contact space for the player.
