The G740 is the biggest iron in Pings entire lineup and its built specifically for golfers who struggle with consistency and need all the help they can get.
These are proper super game improvement irons with the longest blade length, thickest topline and widest sole in the Ping family, a full 22% wider than the G440.
The dual camber sole is designed to glide through the turf even on fat strikes which acts like an insurance policy when you catch it heavy. High density tungsten weighting in the heel and toe boosts MOI to resist twisting on mishits.
The three piece PurFlex cavity badge dampens vibrations without stiffening the face so you get better feel and sound than traditional clunky game improvement irons.

The Ping G740 is all about maximum insurance and forgiveness with that massive sole, chunky profile and sky high launch. If you need help with launch and consistency and dont mind the size, the G740 will give you the most forgiving experience possible.
The Srixon ZXi4 is for the golfer who wants serious distance and forgiveness but in a sleeker package with premium forged feel and players iron looks. The ZXi4 flew longer with excellent turf interaction from that Tour V.T. sole.
The G740 spun more and landed steeper which helps hold greens if you struggle with consistent contact. The ZXi4 had lower spin but still great stopping power with that flatter descent angle.
For pure forgiveness on extreme mishits the G740 is the winner with that ultra wide sole gliding through turf and maintaining ball speed even on fat strikes.
For distance, feel and looks the ZXi4 takes it with that forged construction and MainFrame technology delivering longer shots with premium feedback.
Always best to get a proper fitting but if you shoot over 100 and need maximum help the G740 is your iron. If you’re mid handicap wanting distance and forgiveness without the chunky looks go with the ZXi4.

Srixon ZXi4 Irons First Impressions
The first things to notice about the clubs is the premium finish and the player friendly head.
You can see that the offset is minimal but you do get the thick top line and sole for more forgiveness.
On hitting the irons, you notice the beautiful sound and feel from the I forged face, which has gone through an extra stage of forging to improve the strength.
The metal is also lighter by 14% and the weight savings are relocated further back in the head to improve launch angle and spin.
The irons are very focused on distance and as a result there is a lower flight with less which may lead to less stopping power on the greens.
For this reason it may be wise to use the long irons in the ZXi4 and move to a more player friendly model in the scoring irons to get that extra spin.
The Tour VT sole offers a sharp leading edge to cut through the easily and their is progressively more grooves as you get into the scoring irons.
When you it slightly off center, there is almost no deviation in distance and accuracy.
Overall very impressed with these irons.

The Ping G740’s mark a return to the super game improvement category and these are built for one thing – getting the ball in the air and keeping your shots consistent.
First thing you notice is the larger clubhead and wider sole. These are not trying to hide what they are. They are confidence inspiring clubs that want to help you hit more greens.
We have got a dual-camber sole that positions the COG low and back which means higher launch and more ball speed. The face is bigger too with an expanded hitting surface so when you miss the center, you barely notice.
The PurFlex cavity badge is doing the work behind the face with three flex zones that control the bending and give you a really satisfying feel and sound at impact.
There is plenty of offset here which will help golfers who struggle to get the ball airborne or fight a slice.
The Hydropearl chrome 2.0 finish is back and it keeps performing in wet conditions which is always a bonus.
Overall these are the most forgiving irons in Pings current lineup and they deliver serious distance too.
