Ping G440 Vs. Taylormade QI Irons Comparison Overview
Today we are reviewing the flagship models from two premium brands in Taylormade and Ping.
The Taylormade QI were released in 2024 but are still the flag ship model of game improvement irons for Taylormade.
The Ping G440’s are more refined, compact and refined than the preceeding G430’s but still offer a large profile and strong lofts with distance and forgiveness in mind.
Ping G440 Overview
The Ping G440’s are new for the 2025 season and they look amazing with the sleeker design, smaller cavity and camouflaged top line to offer a big forgiving head that looks great in the bag and slick at address.
We see all the typical features we are used to in the Ping Irons with a Tungsten Screw in the head and matching weight in the heel to stretch the sweet spot along the blade.
The hinge in the hosel allows the face to flex and the Variable Face Technology does an amazing job of keeping shots straight anywhere across the face.
The irons are progressive too with longer shafts in the long irons for max distance and a high launch.
Theyve also got redeisgned wedges which are better launching and more workable too.
If you want even more distance in the long irons, you could get the Power Lofts which offer a lower, longer flight.
Overall, solid improvments on the G430’s with a thinner face and more urethane behind it.
Taylormade QI Irons Overview
The QI Irons from Taylormade offer consistently straight shots from anywhere across the face and with tight distance dispersion.
They have large, forgiving heads with a big profile and the design looks great with the black colouring and glossy finish.
With the P790’s persuing the players distance market, it has freed Taylormade to go after a long, forgiving and consistent iron for high handicappers in the Taylormade QI.
We see the Cap Back in the irons with additonal echo dampening technology inside to give a smooth yet powerful feel and sound.
The True Slot speed pocket picks up any strikes low on the face and the QI irons have been touted as a slice killer with its fade bias.
The COG is also progressively fitted in each iron with the long irons being stronger and the short irons being more precise.
Overall a great set of irons that will suit many golfers.
Ping G440 Vs Taylormade QI Performance
The G440 was the winner for us on testing in these irons.
They were longer, with a higher flight and with more spin than the QI irons which mean more distance and more ability to hold the greens.
That being said the QI irons will be great for many high handicappers while the G440’s will suit high to mid handicap golfers.
Best option is to test both irons and see what works best for your game.
Taylormade Qi First Impressions
“I really liked the clean looks of these irons right away.”
There is nothing busy or flashy about them. And they look plenty forgiving too. They strike a good balance of face depth and blade length but they aren’t bulky and cumbersome.
After a couple of warm-up swings, I was finding the right tempo for these irons which usually takes me longer to do.
I attribute this to the moderate blade and head shape. And of course, the Taylormade Qi irons feature the Speed Pocket which covers your low-face mis-hits.
And as a player who hits the ball thin more often than I like to admit, this is a game-changer for me.
I was also impressed with the effortless stability of these irons. Without much of an adjustment period, I was seeing lower than average side-spin rates and my cut spin was all but eliminated.
So I was getting straighter than normal flight with almost no adjustment to my swing.
The progressive CG (lower in the long irons and higher in the short irons) allowed for excellent stopping power on approaches and at least adequate distance off the tee.

Ping G440 Irons First Impressions
The first thing to notice about the Ping G440’s is that the head has a much more player friendly profile with a shortened blade height and length.
The face is thinner too and the Pur Flex Badge is visible smaller and less cavity like. The Top Line is still thick enough to inspire confidence but its also camoflaged to give that players friendly feel.
The longer irons have longer shafts which is great for distance and launch, especially if you are going with the power spec lofts. Plenty of Mid to Low Handicappers will fancy these Long Irons.
The visible Tungsten screw remains and this stretches the sweet spot along the face and you will barely notice any difference in performance when you slightly miss the center and the slight offset remains too to combat a slice.
The Hydropearl finish has also been upgraded and the result is irons that look a lot nice in the bag.
The G440’s are a worthy upgrade of the G430’s and will be extremely popular in 2025 and beyond.

Who Are the Taylormade Qi Irons for?
The Taylormade Qi irons are excellent for high handicap players who typically find themselves 20 yards or more to the right of the target.
They were designed to correct possibly the most common type of mis-hit among high handicappers and beginners and they do a great job of it.
By helping to dampen the effects of high, toe-side misses, the Taylormade Qi will also help players who are losing out on total distance because they are diverging too far to the right.
The progressive CG and the hollow cap back design will also help you squeeze more distance out of the long and mid irons.
This means that the Taylormade Qi irons would also be good for players who are struggling to get adequate distance out of their longer irons.
The Qi irons are the latest from Taylormade so they currently retail for $1,100 for a complete set.
The Taylormade Qi Irons Family
Keeping with the modern trend of offering higher-lofted versions of new irons, the Taylormade Qi irons also have an HL version.
The standard Taylormade Qi irons are strong-lofted while the Taylormade Qi HL’s have weaker lofts to help the kinds of players that struggle to get the ball in the air.
They may also be more forgiving for players who have slower swing speeds.
