Ping G440 Vs. Ping 730 Irons Comparison Overview
Ping have released the G440 irons in 2025 and they are set to be very popular.
With the G730’s holding down the super game improvement category, that has freed the reigns for the G440’s to aim at the slightl better players who favour workability and stopping power on the greens over pure power and forgiveness.
The 730’s are big and chunky but they inspire confidents and are a great choice for Sunday hackers. The G440’s are smaller and more player friendly than the preceeding G430’s but they are still long and forgiving.
Indeed, if you select the power spec lofts in the G440’s, they are even stronger lofted than the G730’s which may suit some in the longer irons.
G730 Irons Overview
When you hold the G730s next to the G440s, they are noticable bigger and thicker. But besides that, there isnt a million miles in between the looks.
They both have the noticeable tungsten screw in the head and more in the heel to stretch the sweet spot for Ping’s legendary forgiveness. The sound of the G730s is loud but they are incredible easy to hit. If you struggle with consistency in your irons, this is something to look at.
They wont suit the better players as much as they have a low ball flight and low spin, meaning its hard to stop the ball on the green. They are easy to hit straight but hunting the flags is going to be a more difficult task.
They are almost like hybrids when you line them up behind the ball and if you are a bad striker looking for some consistency, they are a good place to start.
G440 Irons Overview
The G440s are noticeably smaller and more player friendly than the G430’s and certainly the G730’s.
The blade is shorten and has less height than the G430’s and the cavity badge is smaller too.
With the thinner face, the COG is pushed lower and deeper and the MOI is higher.
The result is improved distance, with decent spin and good stopping power on the greens.
While the i530’s sound a bit clickly, the G440’s sound better with explosive power and feel.
The Forgiveness on off center hits is also excellent as Ping are know and there is a respectable amount of offset to curb a slice.
The Longer irons have longer shafts to promote extra distance and height aleviating some of the gapping issues.
The wedges have also been redeisgned in the shape of the Eye 2 wedges and they are quite workable.
Overall The G730’s are for high handicappers who are happy to plod around the course once in a while. They have more distance but less spin and a lower flight, also less workable and accurate.
The G440’s are for High To Mid handicappers who want to lower their scores with distance and without abandoning forgiveness.

Ping G730 First Impressions
“The Irons are long, forgiving and well, quite loud at impact too.”
We see all the hallmarks of the Ping game improvement Irons with the deep cavity back, the tungsten weight in the toe and the matching weight in the hosel. We also have the patented Hinge towards the heel of the club to add flex to the face.
The Irons look similar to the G430’s except they are bigger and look a little bit more clean cut towards the bottom.
The Pru Flex cavity badge is also present to give a smoother look and feel to the clubs.
When hitting the clubs, they are confidence inspiring. It felt just like hitting a hybrid, in fact, the face was even a little bigger and more inviting.
The problem we encountered was the lower spin rates and the ball running off the back of the green at times.

Ping G440 Irons First Impressions
The first thing to notice about the Ping G440’s is that the head has a much more player friendly profile with a shortened blade height and length.
The face is thinner too and the Pur Flex Badge is visible smaller and less cavity like. The Top Line is still thick enough to inspire confidence but its also camoflaged to give that players friendly feel.
The longer irons have longer shafts which is great for distance and launch, especially if you are going with the power spec lofts. Plenty of Mid to Low Handicappers will fancy these Long Irons.
The visible Tungsten screw remains and this stretches the sweet spot along the face and you will barely notice any difference in performance when you slightly miss the center and the slight offset remains too to combat a slice.
The Hydropearl finish has also been upgraded and the result is irons that look a lot nice in the bag.
The G440’s are a worthy upgrade of the G430’s and will be extremely popular in 2025 and beyond.
