Ping G440 Vs. Ping G425 Irons Comparison Overview
The New G440’s are out for 2025 and that means a lot of people who bought the G425’s in 2021 and beyond are thinking about whether they need to upgrade or not.
We’ve tested out both irons side by side so you can see exactly whether it makes sense to switch over or not.
The G425 Overview
Starting off, The G425’s are bigger and more muscular than the G440’s but only by a little bit. They have chunky soles and a thick top line with a deep cavity.
They are primarily focuses on Distance, forgiveness and accuracy and they themselves are a little bit more sleek than the g410’s.
The have the variable face technology, tungsten in the heel and toe and the flexible hing at the back as we expect from Ping irons and they deliver a ton of distance, spin and have a lower flight path.
They also look great with a clean satin finish and bold design.
The G440 Overview
The G440’s have had 2 generations of iterations over the G425’s so we should see a bit more in terms of performance and we do in some ways.
The clubs are redesigned and are more sleek and compact. The cavity on the back is noticeably smaller and the irons have more shelf appeal for high to mid handicappers.
That being said they are still thick and chunky, confidence inspiring and focused on distance, speed and consistency.
The long irons have longer shafts for more speed and a higher launch.
The wedges have also had a full redesign and are now more workable with more spin.
G440 Vs G425 Performance
We were getting more distance by about 5 yards with Ping G425 7 iron. This is probably due to the fact that it has 1 degree stronger loft.
We also got a lower ball flight with slightly less spin which was still very decent to stop the ball on the greens.
The G440 was slightly shorter but it had a higher ball flight, more spin and more stopping power on the greens.
With the Longer irons we got more distance, height and spin than the G425’s.
Overall the irons are very close in performance and if you want outright speed, you could go with the G440 Power Spec.
The Ping G440 are all round better irons but the differences are small and its a 50/50 whether you should consider upgrading or not. Test them both out at a fitting center.
Ping G425 – Game Improvement Irons
After taking 2020 off, the G425 Irons are a much anticipated upgrade to the G410’s and the first thing you notice with these irons is that the heads are smaller and more compact.
The irons incorporate two weights, a visible screw at the front of the clubhead and a weight in the hosel. This, coupled with the wide and cascading sole allows a quality ball launch angle.
Ping have gone for the metal wood style material for the first time in a set of irons and the variable face thickness allows for a lot of forgiveness and ball speed on any strike, even when you hit the ball off center.
They also have a multi material badge filling in the cavity at the back to dampen any vibrations on mishits.
The irons have a slight bit of offset for forgiveness but you are going to get plenty of feel from these especially from Irons you would classify as game improvement.

Ping G440 Irons First Impressions
The first thing to notice about the Ping G440’s is that the head has a much more player friendly profile with a shortened blade height and length. The face is thinner too and the Pur Flex Badge is visible smaller and less cavity like. The Top Line is still thick enough to inspire confidence but its also camoflaged to give that players friendly feel.
The longer irons have longer shafts which is great for distance and launch, especially if you are going with the power spec lofts. Plenty of Mid to Low Handicappers will fancy these Long Irons.
The visible Tungsten screw remains and this stretches the sweet spot along the face and you will barely notice any difference in performance when you slightly miss the center and the slight offset remains too to combat a slice.
The Hydropearl finish has also been upgraded and the result is irons that look a lot nice in the bag.
The G440’s are a worthy upgrade of the G430’s and will be extremely popular in 2025 and beyond.
