Ping G440 Vs. Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons Comparison Overview
The Ping G440 and the Paradym are both after the same market of high handicappers looking for distance, forgiveness and consistency.
The G440’s from Ping offer a more sleek head than the G430’s and a towering ball flight that is long, high and with plenty of stopping power on the greens.
The Paradym’s are not the latest release from Callaway but offer the patented rounded head of the brand and a big emphasis on the AI face to aid in forgiveness and consistency.
The G440 Overview
The G440’s are cavity backs, even the cavity is smaller and more compact than the G430’s.
Ping hjave really got the blend of distance, height and forgiveness to a tee with these irons.
They have all the Ping tech that you would expect with the Tungsten weight in the head and the flexible hinge at the back which allows the face to flex for MOI and forgiveness.
The Variable face technology itself is also improved on the thinner face and the result is excellent consistent, ball speed and very good spin rates for high to mid handicap golfers.
The long irons have long shafts as well for higher launch and more distance with the wedges getting a redesign for increased control and workability.
Excellent irons that are very hard to beat.
Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons
Callaway introduced their smart AI face in the Paradym irons and they said it was set to revolutionise the way clubs are made going forwards.
A bunch of data on average players swings is entered into the super computer which generates a ton of sweet spots around the face.
The irons are hollow bodied with Urethane inside and they have stronger lofts than the G440’s which should lead to more distance.
There is minimal offset and a dynamic sole ensures strikes low on the face have a tight dispersion.
The irons are also progression with longer shafts in the long irons and more precision in the scoring irons.
The irons are focused on distance but they are also large and confidence inspiring with a thick topline and chunky soles for high to mid handicappers.
Performance Testing
Ping has been cleaning up in our testing this year, beating out many irons in the head to heads.
They also appear better on paper from our testing.
They deliver more distance, a higher flight and more spin to stop the ball on the green with ease.
The Ai Smoke Irons were also decent with plenty of distance but the flight was a little low as was the spin and we were able to hunt the pins more effectively with the G440’s

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke First Impressions
“My first impression of the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons was that they were familiar.”
I love it when Callaway plays to their strengths and right away, I could tell the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons had classic Callaway design.
The face depth is about medium as is the width of the top line and the sole width. Again, very reminiscent of the size and shape of the Edge irons.
They look like they’re going to be forgiving at first glance and they live up to their initial appearance.
It took me just a couple of swings to get past the 170 yard carry mark with the 7-iron and I was also pretty pleased with the dispersion. Even on my toe-side mis-hits, I wasn’t over-drawing the ball.
Yes, I landed a little too right of the target, but the divergence was never greater than 9 yards.
There 4 version of the irons:
Ai Smoke – High to Mid Handicap
Ai Smoke HL – For Slower Sing Speeds
Ai Smoke Max – For Inconsistent strikers
Ai Smoke Womens – For Women’s Swing Speeds

Ping G440 Irons First Impressions
The first thing to notice about the Ping G440’s is that the head has a much more player friendly profile with a shortened blade height and length. The face is thinner too and the Pur Flex Badge is visible smaller and less cavity like. The Top Line is still thick enough to inspire confidence but its also camoflaged to give that players friendly feel.
The longer irons have longer shafts which is great for distance and launch, especially if you are going with the power spec lofts. Plenty of Mid to Low Handicappers will fancy these Long Irons.
The visible Tungsten screw remains and this stretches the sweet spot along the face and you will barely notice any difference in performance when you slightly miss the center and the slight offset remains too to combat a slice.
The Hydropearl finish has also been upgraded and the result is irons that look a lot nice in the bag.
The G440’s are a worthy upgrade of the G430’s and will be extremely popular in 2025 and beyond.

Who Are the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons for?
In my humble opinion, I think the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons would be great for handicappers in the 17-23 range.
This is the area where you’re still going to need a good bit of distance and help staying on the fairway – two things that the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons do exceedingly well.
But if you have problems hitting the ball low, the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons are not for you.
For the naturally low hitter I would recommend the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL irons which, as you can probably guess, have weaker loft profiles which means higher launch.

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons Family
In addition to the standard Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons, Callaway has released the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL and the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast iron sets.
As already discussed the HL version is a weaker-lofted, higher-launching set. The 7-iron HL checks in at 30° in comparison to the 28° lofted 7-iron of the standard Paradym Ai Smoke set.
The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL irons also have deeper cavity backs and are generally a bit more forgiving.
Then there are the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast irons which also feature a deep cavity back and even weaker lofts – the 7-iron is 31°.
The Max Fast irons boast a lighter design than the standard Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons so they would be better for slower swing speed players.
