Ping G430 Vs Ping G440 Hybrid Review & Comparison

G430 Vs G440 Hybrid

The latest G440 Hybrids have been released by Ping and there has been a whole bunch of fan fare surrounding the launch. In today’s review, we are going to put them to the test against the precious model to see who comes out on top.

Ping G430 Hybrid Overview

The Ping G430 also comes in 2 to 7 Hybrid and is also high performing in its own right.

The Carbon Fly Wrap is lightweight and aerodynamic to allow the club to glide through the air more quickly.

The Miraging Steel Face technology merges seamlessly with the crown and the sole, to increase flexibility and the spinsistency tech makes these workable like a iron with the face of a hybrid.

There is also plenty of loft and lie configuration settings to choose from in these excellent hybrids for both high to mid handicap golfers.

Ping G440 Hybrid Overview

G440 hybrid5

“The G440 hybrids introduce individual shaping for each club head and a smaller more refined shaping. ”

The lofts are also 1 degree weaker and the face is thinner, more shallow and forgiving.

The 2 Hybrid has a fade bias, the 3, 4 have a straight flight bias and the 5, 6, and 7 have a draw bias in the head shape.

The design is a little more understated than the G430’s and the free hosel design frees up weight to place the CG lower and deeper in the head.

We’ve got more flexibility in the hosel too with +1.5 and -3 degrees of the standard loft allowable.

The result is Hybrids that go as far as woods and have the same accuracy and stopping power as irons.

Expect to see more mid to low handicappers using these Hybrids but they also suit high handicappers and the HL version will also suit slower swing speeds.

Ping G440 Vs G430 Hybrid Performance Comparison

Longer, higher launch, more stopping and more spin. the G440 hybrids are some of the best we have ever seen in terms of performance.

The G430’s were excellent in their own right but expect an increased uptake this year of the G440, even in the better players.

“A smaller refined shape with a thinner, shallower face and club heads design specifically for each club. Revolutionary Hybrids from Ping”

Ping G430 Hybrid – First Impressions

“At first, we were a bit concerned about the sole design and leading edge of the Ping G430 hybrids.”

And as it turns out, we had a right to be concerned. The leading edge of these hybrids isn’t as smooth as you would hope for a hybrid. Turf interaction was a bit harsh; but they launch high enough for better players to attack the pin from pretty much any lie.

Ping G430 Hybrid Family

“You can use the Ping G430 hybrids to replace almost any iron or fairway wood in your bag.”

They range from #2 to #7 and they all have a D1 swing weight. The Ping G430 family of hybrids can even replace your shorter fairway woods and yield the same distance. All of the hybrids in the Ping G430 line come with the same features such as carbon composite crowns, C300 maraging steel faces and Facewrap technology.

Ping G440 Hybrid – First Impressions

G440 Hybrid 1

“The G440’s are a little more understated in design than the G430’s and the sharper leading edge is apparant with the shallower face.”

The next thing to note is that each individual hybrid is design with a particular ball flight shape by default depending on which type of golfer will use it.

The 2 Hybrid, which has a loft of 1 degree less than the G430 has a fade bias, while the 3 and 4 promote a straight flight.

The 5, 6, and 7 hybrid have a draw bias because as it will be used by a lot of higher handicap players who struggle with a slice.

There is also plenty of loft and lie options with +1.5 and -3 degrees of loft available. The free hosel design also frees up weight which allows for a lower CG and a slimmer back weighted profile.

When you hit the clubs, its like an aha moment. They have the control and spin rates of an iron with the extra distance of a hybrid. They are also super easy to hit from any lie.

They have more loft too than the preceeding G430’s and this allows for grester stopping power on the greens.

Ping G440 Hybrid Family

The Ping G440 Hybrids come in a standard option and they also come in a High Launch version which has a more lightweight configuration and allows the golfer to get the ball in the air more easily.

“The Ping G430 hybrids would be a good choice for any mid to high handicapper who wants to be able to keep the ball straight.”

At the end of the day, our testers were pleased with how accurate the Ping G430 hybrids are. Of course, they are also forgiving thanks to the Facewrap design. Other than turf interaction which was a bit lacking, the Ping G430 hybrids ticked all the boxes for us.

Who is the Ping G430 Hybrid for?

G440 Hybrid 6

“It’s rare to see Hybrids on the men’s PGA Tour but its abundantly clear that the G440 Hybrids cater for more than just High Handicappers”

The Hybrids have easy launching capabilities, with spin rates and stopping power comparable with irons.

The weaker lofts also give steeper decent angles to land on the greens. There is also a high launch version for slower swing speeds.

I would expect the G440 hybrids to end up in the hands of all types of golfers from high to mid to low handicappers who can benefit from the dual performance of the 2 hybrid off the tee for instance.

All round super long, forgiving and workable clubs well worth checking out.
