Ping G430 Vs Callaway Paradym Fairway Wood Comparison Overview

Ping and Callaway have given us a lot to do to start the year.

The new Ping G430 clubs from Ping and the Paradym series from Callaway promise better overall performance for the average golfer. For the most part, the Ping G430 and Paradym clubs are very different.

But when it came time to test and compare the fairway woods from each series, we realized that there was a decent amount of feature overlap. What does that mean in terms of performance? Which fairway wood would be better for your game? Find out in the following comparison overview.

Ping G430 Fairway Wood Overview

“The Ping G430 fairway woods use a C300 maraging steel face and come in SFT and MAX models.”

The SFT edition has a sliding weight to shift CG depending on your swing bias. Both models have the same features other than the sliding weight. The Ping G430 fairway woods sport a carbon composite crown and facewrap technology.

Our testers remarked that the Ping G430 fairway woods were exceptionally forgiving. Contact made just above face-center or way low on the face were not excessively punished thanks to the facewrap design. The maraging steel also did a great job of pushing ball speeds higher than average for our testers.

While turf interaction wasn’t super smooth, the Ping G430 fairway woods yielded low side spin and would be a great choice for mid handicappers with fast swing speeds and an aggressive tempo.

Callaway Paradym Fairway Wood Overview

“The Callaway fairway wood also utilizes C300 maraging steel for the face.”

Like Ping, Callaway also used carbon fiber for the build of the Paradym hybrid; but for the Paradym, carbon fiber is used for the sole. More weight is also placed forward in the head as opposed to in the back of it.

Our testers were getting low spin rates from the Paradym fairway wood as well. So the performance and distance was very similar to the Ping G430. However, the Paradym punished mis-hits more noticeably. The Callaway Paradym fairway woods also don’t launch quite as high as the Ping G430 woods.

“The Ping G430 fairway woods would be a good choice for mid to high handicappers who need a good degree of forgiveness. However, if you need your fairway woods to perform from the rough, the Callaway Paradym fairway woods are the better choice.”

Ping G430 Fairway Wood – First Impressions

“Overall we were pretty excited to get our hands on the Ping G430 fairway woods.”

We really liked the black and red color scheme and the overall aesthetic is very much in line with modern Ping clubs

We were taken with the feel of these woods almost immediately. The C300 maraging steel has an excellent resonant tone that really rewards you on pure strikes. While the Ping G430 fairway woods aren’t forged, you get feedback that is comparable to forged woods from them.

Callaway Paradym Fairway Wood2

“With just one glance, you can tell that this was a fairway wood built to modern specifications.”

What we mean is that they bear more of a resemblance to modern hybrid clubs than any other Callaway wood we have seen before.

They were certainly built with mid and high handicappers in mind – although the Triple Diamond version definitely has something to offer lower handicap players.

Upon swinging the Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods, we were impressed with the lowered spin and moderate increase in carry distance for most of our testers.

“The standard Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods are great for mid and high handicappers.”

The Paradym X fairway woods have a slight draw bias so they would be the best choice for players struggling to fix a slice.

The Triple Diamond Paradym fairway woods have the most classic-looking profile and the deepest faces.

This is the best choice if you are able to work the ball and want to attack long approaches more aggressively.
