Ping G425 Vs. Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Comparison & Review

We know the Ping G425 very well. We have tested it more than once and are familiar with it’s performance which is solid, both in feel and performance. It’s often the measuring stick we use to test newer clubs against.

Continuing our tradition, we went out and tested the new Callaway Rogue ST Max driver against the Ping G425.

Ping G425 Driver Overview

The Ping G425 is loaded up with titanium which is what gives it it’s solid, powerful feel.

The crown and body are both made of titanium and the face is made of forged titanium. So at the very least, this is a very durable driver. On the course though, you will find that the Ping G425 is very lightweight and consistent.

Adding to the versatility of this driver is a 26 gram tungsten rear weight that can be adjusted to the neutral, draw or fade positions. Topping everything off is the internal dragonfly bracing system which adds to the consistency of this driver and allows the face to flex more.

The Ping G425 would be a great choice for a wide variety of players; not just high handicappers and beginners. Players with fast swing speeds will be able to easily unlock the massive distance potential of this driver.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Overview

The Callaway Rogue ST Max driver actually mirrors some of the features of the Ping G425.

Like the Ping G425, the Callaway Rogue ST Max has a lightweight titanium body frame. And while the design and name may be different both the dragonfly bracing system of the G425 and the Jailbreak bars of the Callaway Rogue ST Max serve the same purpose: increase stability for the increased flex of the face.

However, the Callaway Rogue ST Max was certainly the more forgiving driver and it was also more congenial for our slower swing speed testers. It has a carbon fiber crown and sole so it’s actually lighter than the Ping G425.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max also played longer for our higher handicap testers and all of our testers regardless of handicap were getting better launch angles from it.

It’s not often that we come across a driver that outperforms the Ping G425 in almost every performance regard. While the Ping G425 has a better feel, the Callaway Rogue ST Max will benefit more players with more speed, distance and launch.

Ping G425 Drivers – First Impressions

The Club is pretty understated in it’s design, it’s all black with some white logo writing and you can immediately notice the adjustable weighting in the back that can iron out any inherent flaws in your swing.

The weight on the back is tungsten and weighs 26g, the ultra light internal dragon fly crown allows for more weight in the back and face which is a forged insert, delivering incredible ball speed and accuracy.

The head is packing huge MOI of over 10,000, and it incorprates and ultralight hosel insert and internal ribbing for unrivalled feel, forgiveness and competitive distance.

The club comes in three formats:

The max will suit mid to high handicappers

The LST has a smaller 445cc head for the consistent mid to low to pro players

The SFT is the most forgiving of the drivers and best for beginners who tend to slice

Overall the G425 has excellent feel and consistent and rightfully takes its place as one of the top premium drivers on the market right now.

Callaway Rogue ST Max  Driver – First Impressions

After our first swing with the Roge ST Max, we were very impressed by how solid and satisfying it felt.

Part of the solid feel comes from the internal bracing bars that are more laterally expansive to provide body support both horizontally and vertically. That, coupled with the titanium low-profile body bracing make for an exceptionally solid driver with a nice, comfortable and low center of gravity.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max also features an adjustable hosel for fine-tuning your shot shape.

The Rogue ST Family

The Rogue ST Max is the only one with a 26 gram tungsten weight. The Rogue ST Max D, Rogue ST Max LS and Rogue ST LS have either 23 gram or 20 gram weights. The Rogue ST LS was the most workable of the bunch and produced the lowest spin off the tee.
