Ping G410 Vs. Ping i525 Irons Comparison & Review

We test a lot of clubs for beginners and high handicappers because let’s face it, golf is a hard sport. Pretty much every kind of player can do with more forgiveness and distance. But we wanted to change directions a little bit with today’s overview.

We went out and tested the brand new Ping i525 irons against the old stalwarts, the Ping G410 irons. Both of these irons were designed with mid to low handicappers in mind but which one offers the better overall performance? Let’s find out.

Ping G410 Irons Overview

The Ping G410 irons represent a surprising mixture of precision performance and game-improvement features.

First of all, these are cavity back irons so right off the bat, they offer a decent amount of MOI. However, the blade lengths of these irons are relatively short when compared to actual game-improvement irons. There is also toe and hosel weighting to increase the MOI even more.

The launch angles were a little low with these irons but the distance was up to par (no pun intended). Our testers were averaging distance of 177 yards with the 4 iron in the G410 set. What our testers liked the most about these irons though was the workability. Our better testers were able to fine-tune their shot shapes on almost every swing.

Ping Ping i525 Irons Overview

The Ping i525 irons have a more modern muscle back design but the same minimal offset and short blade length as the G410 irons.

You will need to be pretty accurate with the Ping i525 irons but if you are, you will be handsomely rewarded. Spin rates are kept in check in the longer irons and are very robust in the short irons. Our testers loved every club in the set.

Spacing was no issue and some of them only had to pull out their 5 iron to land the green on a par 4. When the shorter irons were used though, our testers noted that they play well from tough lies. They launch high enough to get you over hazards and onto elevated greens as well.

The Ping i525 irons will reward you if you are able to make consistent contact with a smaller head and sweet spot. They provide more value and versatility for low handicappers than the older Ping G410 irons. In this case at least, newer really is better.

These irons feel and sound amazing but you are not going to get the same levels of feel as you will with the players irons.

Due to the higher launch and 4 extra grooves being added to the club, there is more workabilty in the longer irons and control in the shorter irons.

The player profile looks really nice in the i525’s at address, very similar to a players iron but it delivers on ball speed with the dynamic, miraging steel construction.

The hydropearl 2.0 ensures these irons perform well in wet as well as dry conditions and the additional flex in the face completes an excellent new set of Hollow Body Players Distance Irons.

Ping G410 – First Impressions

The first thing you are going to notice about the G410 irons is that they are much more attractive looking than the G410’s

The tingsten weighting in the club head and hosel have lowered the COG of the irons and survived to the G425’s as well.

The clubs are less offset and slight smaller headed than the G410’s and the undercut top line offers good turf interaction to turn the heads of the better players.

The clubs also introduced variable face thickness and a flexible hinge for forgiveness on off center hits.

The clubs offer forgiveness, distance and consistency to high and mid handicap players.
