Ping G400 Vs Taylormade M2 Driver Comparison Overview

For most players, getting the most bang for your buck from your driver means closely following individual preferences. In other words, what’s right for others may not be right for you when it comes to driver selection.

And these days, there is a glut of options and features that manufacturers throw at you so it can be doubly hard to determine which drivers will meet your specific criteria as a player.

To help you sort through all the dross and marketing, we have put together a little comparison article that details the merits and drawbacks of two very popular drivers.

Ping G400 Driver Overview

From our testing, we came to the conclusion that the Ping G400 driver gives you a little bit of everything.

Right off the bat, we would say that the Ping G400 has the best shot of pleasing many different kinds of players no matter what their preferences are. It would seem that Ping tried to make this driver their jack of all trades so to speak.

For instance, for the player who loves versatility, there is an adjustable loft sleeve. The Ping G400 also features a forged titanium face so it will likely satisfy the player with discerning taste in feel.

For those of you who are after forgiveness and help with distance, the Ping G400 features a dense tungsten weight in the extreme rear of the head similar to the design of some of the Taylormade M and SIM drivers.

Taylormade M2 Driver Overview

The scope of the Taylormade M2 appeared to us to be a bit more narrow than that of the Ping G400 driver but what it does focus on, it does very well.

From our testing, we were able to surmise that Tyalormade really wanted to emphasize forgiveness and comfortability with the M2 driver. When you first pick this driver up, you will feel how ligt and wieldy it is in the hands.

The M2 driver has a swing weight of D3 which is the same as the Ping G400 but the multi-layer carbon crown and the titanium body construction makes it feel lighter in the hands. This will certainly be a welcome feeling for players with slow swing speeds.

Like the Ping G400 driver, the Taylormade M2 features rear-oriented weight in the head. There are 25 grams of weight placed in the back of the head to help players on their downswing, increase MOI and spread more energy around more sectors of the face.

As you can imagine, this makes the M2 driver considerably forgiving even when you miss the sweet spot.

The G Family

Also included in the G family of drivers are the G410 and the G425. The G410 has an adjustable rear sliding weight which makes it extremely versatile for all kinds of players while the G425 sports a more aerodynamic head design to help with clubhead speed.

Taylormade M2 First Impressions

The first thing we noticed about the Taylormade M2 driver was how light it felt and how well it cut through the air on the downswing.

This driver will feel really good for anyone with a slower swing speed. It cuts through the air like a dream and delivers smooth, buttery contact when you pure it.

The M Family

The M2 is joined by the M6 and M4 drivers. The M6 more closely resembles the SIM drivers from Taylormade as it has an even more pronounced rear weight. The M4 is a bit more subtle but does have a more satisfying sound and feel than both the M2 and M6.
