Cobra Speedzone Vs. Taylormade M2 Driver Comparison Overview

Cobra is a company known for packing a lot of advanced and custom features into their clubs. Anyone who has picked up their drivers or irons can attest to this. However, Cobra is still sort of the new kid on the block of golf club manufacturers.

How does a company like Cobra stand up against an industry stalwart like Taylormade? To find out, we pitted the newer Cobra Speedzone driver against a tried and true Taylormade driver. The Taylormade M2.

Cobra Speedzone Driver Overview

The Cobra Speedzone driver is an impressive blend of feel and low spin performance that was unleashed on the golf world in early 2020.

The Cobra Speedzone shows it’s young age with it’s up to date features. The first thing we noticed about this driver was how good it felt on impact. The Speedzone has a milled face that blends seamlessly into the head.

Secondly, we noticed that our faster swing speed testers were able to get impressive distance from the Speedzone while our slower swing speed testers were struggling a bit. Max distance was 288 yards and our testers attributed that to the extremely low spin rates.

The Speedzone has an adjustable front to rear weight that can be used to eliminate spin or enhance forgiveness. Higher handicap players can get in on the Speedzone action too by picking up the Speedzone Xtreme.

Taylormade M2 Driver Overview

The Taylormade M2 offers forgiveness and a feel that is comparable to the Cobra Speedzone driver.

The tremendous feel of the Taylormade M2 driver comes from the 9-1-1 titanium construction of the body and the carbon fiber crown. There is a fixed 25 gram weight in the low-rear of the head which helps out with forgiveness a lot.

In fact, after we tested the Speedzone and the Taylormade M2 side-by-side, we could immediately tell that the M2 was significantly more forgiving.

In terms of distance though, the Speedzone definitely takes the cake. Our testers were getting max distance of only about 272 yards out of the Taylormade M2 driver.

Our overall take on the Cobra Speedzone driver is that it is generally the better-performing driver of the two.

The feel is at least comparable to that of the Taylormade M2 driver and distance is greatly enhanced thanks to extremely low spin. Based on the performance of the Speedzone driver alone, we are inclined to say that Cobra has earned it’s spot among the world’s best club manufacturers.
