Cobra Speedzone Vs. PXG 0211 Driver Comparison And Review

Is speed always king? People often equate more distance off the tee with higher club head speeds, swing speeds and ball speeds.

And indeed, these are all important metrics if you’re trying to push the ball as far as you can down the fairway.

And companies like Cobra have predicated entire driver lines on the pursuit of speed. However, there are other things to consider when you’re teeing off.

So to see if speed really is the end-all be-all, we tested the Cobra Speedzone against a quite contrary driver.

Cobra Speedzone Driver Overview

The Cobra Speedzone was built to be light, push your club head speed and produce more ball speed.

And indeed, it does all of this and more. As soon as you pick up the Speedzone driver, you can feel how light it is.

It’s loaded with carbon fiber which has an excellent weight to strength ratio so you even get a surprisingly stable feel from this driver on full swings.

Another thing that stood out to us about this driver was that it was surprisingly forgiving for a driver that seemed so preoccupied with club head speed.

The mostly carbon fiber crown and sole allow for perimeter weighting which produced more distance on mis-hits for our testing party.

The “wraparound” face that bleeds seamlessly into the crown and sole make for a more expansive sweet spot as well.

PXG 0211 Driver Overview

The PXG 0211 driver is a club that seems to have been made with other things in mind beside club head speed.

The PXG 0211 driver won’t do much to increase your swing speed. It’s also heavier than the Speedzone.

However, what it lacks in those departments it makes up for in workability. The titanium alloy face along with the adjustable hosel allow you to shape your shots to a surprising degree.

The PXG 0211 also created higher-arcing shots than the Cobra Speedzone driver. Alas, the PXG 0211 did not play as long as the Speedzone as it gave up about 8 yards on average.

Still, we found it to be the more accurate of the two drivers.

No, it’s not all about speed. But if speed is what you need, there’s no question that you should opt for the Cobra Speedzone.

It’s lighter and longer and produces low, piercing shot trajectory. If you like to work the ball more though, try the PXG 0211.

The PXG 0211 driver also features an adjustable hosel in a club that is a bit more forgiving than its 0811 counterpart.

Speedzone Driver – First Impressions

“The Cobra Speedzone doesn’t look like much at first, but it will quickly win you over with it’s superior feel and forgiveness.”

On the other end of the spectrum is the Cobra Speedzone which feels light in the hands as soon as you pick it up. We were really impressed from the feel and feedback of this driver.

It provides good forgiveness with perimeter weighting inside the head at the left and right corners of the face and at the rear of the head.

The Speedzone Family

Cobra also makes the Speedzone Xtreme driver which is more forgiving with an oversized face profile.

PXG 0211 First Impressions

We were excited to see an adjustable hosel in what is essentially meant to be an entry-level PXG driver (if such a thing exists).

After the first swing, we were taken aback at how soft and smooth this driver felt. We credit this to the railed sole design which increase MOI but also adds stability by bracing the heel and toe.

The honeycombed polymer insert in the head doesn’t hurt either. Plus, the fact that you can shape shots better with the adjustable hosel actually makes this driver a great value.

Who Are The Speedzone Drivers For

The Cobra Speedzone are more for low handicap players with faster swing speeds.

You won’t get much in the way of distance from the Cobra Speedzone driver if you don’t have a good swing speed.

That being said, the Speedzone driver is accurate, generates great ball speed away from the sweet spot and feels amazing at impact

There’s also an adjustable weight that you can move to alter from forward CG to rear CG.

Cobra Speedzone Xtreme Driver

The Cobra Speeedzone Xtreme is a model that is more forgiving and consistent for high handicappers and players who generally struggle off the tee.

It’s got a lot of the same features but with a more pronounced offset to quell any slicing and a lower spin rate to keep the ball flying straighter.

PXG 0211 Driver – Who is it for?

The PXG 0211 driver is actually more forgiving than the 0811 so it would be more suitable for mid handicap players that need a little help with shot shaping.

We love the fact that PXG paired a high forgiveness driver with an adjustable hosel. While this driver still isn’t as forgiving as some Callaway and Taylormade entries, it is one of the most forgiving drivers that PXG has ever produced.

All in all we would say that this would be a suitable driver for a mid handicapper that already knows how to shape shots based on the nature of the hole.
