Cobra Speedzone Vs. Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Comparison & Review

Even though the Callaway Rogue ST Max is the newer driver and it obviously comes from a different company, we found out that it actually has a lot in common with the Cobra Speedzone driver. Different companies love to use different names for technologies but in the end, they actually do the same thing.

Still, there are key differences between these two drivers and in order to make the soundest decision, you need to know what they are. Take a look at our article comparing the Callaway Rogue ST Max with the Cobra Speedzone driver.

Cobra Speedzone Driver Overview

The Cobra Speedzone driver hit shelves a little over two years ago.

It being the older driver, we were expecting the Speedzone to have outdated features and technology compared to the Callaway Rogue ST Max. That wasn’t the case. The Speedzone has a titanium chassis like the ST Max.

The Speedzone has a carbon fiber crown, like the ST Max. The Speedzone has low CG, like the ST Max. What the Speedzone has that the ST Max doesn’t however is a front to back adjustable weight. Our better testers loved the forward position for killing spin while our higher handicap testers enjoyed the enhanced forgiveness of the rear weight position.

The milled portion of the face of the Speedzone is also expansive which imparts forgiveness and a rich feel even to mis-hits.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Overview

The Callaway Rogue ST Max takes everything that the Speedzone does to the next level.

For instance, the Callaway Rogue ST Max has a carbon fiber sole and crown. The titanium chassis sports a one-piece design and sits lower in the head than the Speedzone as well. This subtle difference in positioning makes a big difference in terms of CG.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max was producing better launch angles than the Speedzone overall. While the Callaway Rogue ST Max lacks an adjustable weight, there is a fixed 26 gram tungsten cartridge pulling CG downward and imparting a slight draw bias to increase forgiveness.

While the Cobra Speedzone driver has a nicer feel overall, it couldn’t compete with the Callaway Rogue ST Max in terms of launch and distance. We would say they are equally forgiving in the long run; but newer players will have an easier go of it with the Callaway Rogue ST Max.

On the other end of the spectrum is the Cobra Speedzone which feels light in the hands as soon as you pick it up. We were really impressed from the feel and feedback of this driver.

Cobra also makes the Speedzone Xtreme driver which is more forgiving with an oversized face profile.

Callaway Rogue ST Max  Driver – First Impressions

After our first swing with the Roge ST Max, we were very impressed by how solid and satisfying it felt.

Part of the solid feel comes from the internal bracing bars that are more laterally expansive to provide body support both horizontally and vertically. That, coupled with the titanium low-profile body bracing make for an exceptionally solid driver with a nice, comfortable and low center of gravity.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max also features an adjustable hosel for fine-tuning your shot shape.

The Rogue ST Family

The Rogue ST Max is the only one with a 26 gram tungsten weight. The Rogue ST Max D, Rogue ST Max LS and Rogue ST LS have either 23 gram or 20 gram weights. The Rogue ST LS was the most workable of the bunch and produced the lowest spin off the tee.
