Cobra Speedzone Hybrid Review – Is it Forgiving & Good for High Handicappers?

The Cobra Speedzone Hybrid, like many Cobra clubs, represents a very intriguing combination of game-improvement and player’s performance features.

Cobra Speedzone Hybrid Overview

The premium features of the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid start with the forged 455 grade stainless steel face.

This allows for an insane amount of flex and a really sweet feel overall. The premium features continue with a pair of hollow baffler rails. The baffler rails serve to smooth out turf interaction without adding any weight to the club overall.

Is the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid Forgiving?

Surprisingly, yes. As promised, the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid gives you premium features; but also features that increase it’s forgiveness factor.

The first thing that our testers noticed was the large footprint of this club. It may seem like a basic thing but trust us, it goes a long way toward increasing the forgiveness of this club. Our testers mentioned that the sweet spot was easy to nail and that in general, the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid was easy to swing.

Is the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid Good for Beginners & High Handicappers?

Again, we would have to say yes. Aside from the large head profile, the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid has weight positioned to be congenial for high handicappers.

The weight is positioned low and back in the club head. This does two very important things: it effectively lowers the center of gravity of the club which in turn makes it easier to get good launch angles.

Incidentally, our high handicap testers also noted that this same weight placement was responsible for helping them reaching more greens in regulation. The high launch makes it much easier to hold onto fast greens – even from 150+ yard approaches.

Should you Buy the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid or the Radspeed?

The Cobra Radspeed Hybrid emphasizes front-orientated weights in order to reduce ball spin and increase distance.

The Radspeed hybrid also features a rear weight much like the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid. However, from our testing, the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid was much easier to yield for beginners. The Radspeed hybrid is great in terms of distance; but only for players who can unlock it.

Unlocking it will entail having an above average swing speed. The Cobra Speedzone Hybrid is a club that might actually help you increase your swing speed and is the better buy for beginners.

Cobra Speedzone Hybrid

In 20 Words Or Less

The Cobra Speedzone hybrids play amazingly fast and really shine on short approaches.

Cobra Speedzone Hybrid First Impressions

The first thing that impressed us about the Cobra Speedzone hybrids was the feel at impact.

For us, we prefer a forged face any day of the week. While forged stainless steel is not going to perform as well as say, forged titanium, the Cobra Speedzone hybrids still feel satisfying and produce a high level of flex.

The Cobra Speedzone hybrids are available in 2H-5H.

The Cobra Hybrid Family

Cobra also produces the Radspeed Hybrid which has similar features to the Cobra Speedzone hybrids.

However, the main difference is in the split front/back weighting of the Radspeed hybrids. The result of this weighting dynamic is greatly reduced spin compared to the Cobra Speedzone hybrids.

Naturally, the Radspeed hybrids tend to play longer.

Who is the Cobra Speedzone Hybrid for?

The Cobra Speedzone hybrids will appeal more to mid handicappers who are beginning to be able to attack greens from farther out.

They definitely still do have something to offer players who are struggling with accuracy; but all-in-all, they do the most to improve your short game.

The high launch will make it very easy to hold onto fast greens. Meanwhile the baffler rails will make it much easier to achieve sharper accuracy from the rough than most other hybrids.

The fast ball speeds will also be a welcome asset for both beginner and intermediate players; but of course, they have much more to offer mid handicap golfers.
