Cobra Radspeed Vs. Taylormade Stealth Driver Comparison Overview

It’s funny; with all the Cobra drivers that feature so much carbon fiber, we would have thought the first carbon fiber-faced driver would have come from them. Alas, Taylormade has beaten Cobra to the punch with the Taylormade Stealth driver.

Perhaps it was by design though. After all, carbon fiber face construction is very new and very unproven. But the future is now and we no longer have to speculate. We can test a real carbon fiber-faced driver against a traditional metal wood and that’s exactly what we did.

Cobra Radspeed Driver Overview

We’ve always loved the Cobra Radspeed driver for it’s exceptionally low spin rates and seemingly endless sweet spot.

The Cobra Radspeed gets its name from the radial weighting system that features a whopping 28 grams up front and 10 grams in the rear. This keeps spin rates way down. Each of the weights (16 grams up front and 2 grams in the back) is adjustable too.

This means you can adjust spin and trajectory to a very fine degree with this driver. The downside is that it can be very hard to find the right combination of front and rear weighting. But once you dial it in, the results are worth it.

The milled face feels amazing and wraps into the sole and crown for a seamless sweet spot. The Radspeed plays hot, feels great and is surprisingly forgiving.

Taylormade Stealth Driver Overview

While spin rates with the Taylormade Stealth driver were certainly higher than the Radspeed, overall distance was still comparable.

How comparable? The Cobra Radspeed driver played about 6 yards longer on average than the Taylormade Stealth driver. The carbon fiber/polyurethane face of the Stealth driver certainly gives it a unique feel; but the Radspeed driver offered a richer and more stable impact.

The Taylormade Stealth driver also produces higher launch angles and straighter shots. In all, the Taylormade Stealth driver functioned better as a game improvement driver than the Radspeed due in part to the fact that it was also a bit more forgiving.

We noticed faster ball speeds with the Taylormade Stealth driver on mis-hits down near the sole.

The Radspeed will appeal more to mid to low handicappers while the Taylormade Stealth driver has more to offer beginners and high handicappers. The carbon fiber face of the Stealth driver also leaves a little to be desired in terms of feel.

The Taylormade Stealth is one of the most unique and impressive drivers of 2022 so far.

Cobra Radspeed – First Impressions

“Like it’s predecessor, the Speedzone driver, the Radspeed feels light and wieldy in the hands. You can feel and hear the quality materials used after your first swing.

We were really impressed with the milled face of this driver. It feels incredible and is extremely reactive.

The Radspeed is really starting to challenging the biggest names in the driver department like the Pings, Taylormades and Titleists.

The Radspeed Family

The Radspeed XB driver features back-biased radial weighting (20 grams in the back and 8 in the front) which allows for higher, straighter shots.

The Radspeed XD driver features heel-biased weighting (8 grams in front, 10 in the middle and 14 in the back) perfect for those looking to avoid a slice.

Taylormade Stealth Driver – First Impressions

The Taylormade Stealth driver was impressive in almost every respect but we were really interested in testing our first carbon-faced driver.

For the most part, we weren’t disappointed. While it became clear fairly early on that the Taylormade Stealth driver was more for mid to low handicap players, it was awesome to experience something so fresh, new and most importantly, effective.

As you may expect from a Taylormade driver, the Taylormade Stealth features the famed speed pocket and a redesigned inertia generator that was upping the swing speeds of even our higher handicap testers (by 2-3 MPH).

The Stealth Family

The Stealth family includes the Stealth Plus and the Stealth HD drivers. The Stealth Plus is the only one in the line that features a sliding rear weight while the Stealth HD is the only one with internal draw bias.

Cobra Radspeed – Who are the for?

The Cobra Radspeed driver is for low to mid handicappers who prefer forward-biased center of gravity.

The bottom line is that the Cobra Radspeed driver will produce less spin off the tee than even the Titleist Tsi3. It’s remarkably workable as well thanks to the two adjustable weights in the front and back.

Our only real gripe about this driver is that adjusting the weights is kind of tricky. It’s not as easy as the sliding weight of the Titleist TSi3 driver. The TSi3 driver also has a slew of custom shaft options.

The Radspeed Family

The Rad X B

The Rad X B has everything the Radspeed has but it offers more forgiveness and easier launch than the Radspeed.

There is less spin and that offers straighter shots

The Rad X D

The Draw version of the driver, super forgiving for High Handicappers who are prone to slicing the ball.
