Cobra Radspeed Vs. Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Comparison & Review

At first glance, the Cobra Radspeed and the Callaway Rogue ST Max drivers don’t have a lot in common. When you actually play both of them though, you find that they more or less do the same kinds of things.

The Radspeed driver is a fan-favorite around here – especially among some of our more skilled players. So could the new Callaway Rogue ST Max act as usurper? Check out what makes these drivers different and similar and which one we liked the most.

Cobra Radspeed Driver Overview

The star of the show with the Radspeed driver is the 28 grams of weight positioned in the front of the head.

We have come across very few drivers that were more effective at eliminating almost all trace of ball spin than the Cobra Radspeed. Of course, you will need a pretty decent swing speed to match the distance of true game-improvement drivers if you are using the Radspeed.

The Radspeed is also decently forgiving with a 10 gram weight placed in the back of the head to increase MOI. However, the Callaway Rogue ST Max is certainly the more forgiving driver with a 26 gram back weight and a deeper face profile.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Overview

The Callaway Rogue ST Max is the new kid on the block and is a driver that emphasizes forgiveness over everything.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max is similar to the Radspeed in the sense that both driver attempt to stabilize a high flexing face with a titanium chassis frame. The difference though is that the chassis sits lower in the head of the Callaway Rogue ST Max than in the Radspeed.

This creates a CG lower than the Radspeed driver which, alone makes it the more congenial driver for beginners. The Callaway Rogue ST Max also has a carbon crown just like the Radspeed but the sole of the ST Max is also carbon creating even more weight savings.

This makes the Callaway Rogue ST Max easier to swing for high handicappers and players with slower swing speeds.

The Radspeed driver is certainly more workable and better for lower handicap players. But the Callaway Rogue ST Max is more forgiving and plays longer for more kinds of players than the Radspeed. For beginners, we like the Callaway Rogue ST Max driver more than the Radspeed.

Cobra Radspeed Driver – First Impressions

The Radspeed driver just looks fast. It’s aesthetically pleasing and after your first drive, you’ll see why it’s called “Radspeed.”

In reality, it’s called the “Radspeed” because of the RADial front-back weighting. But still, Radspeed just sounds cool. However, we should note here and now that the Radspeed is not as forgiving as the Cobra LTDx driver.

The Radspeed Family

The Radspeed family mirrors the new LTD family. What we mean is the Radspeed XB has more rear weighting to increase forgiveness – much like the LTDx Max. The Radspeed XD driver on the other hand was designed to help correct slices with an internal draw bias weighting.

It should also be noted that all the drivers in the Radspeed family have 460CC heads and the CNC milled faces.

Callaway Rogue ST Max  Driver – First Impressions

After our first swing with the Roge ST Max, we were very impressed by how solid and satisfying it felt.

Part of the solid feel comes from the internal bracing bars that are more laterally expansive to provide body support both horizontally and vertically. That, coupled with the titanium low-profile body bracing make for an exceptionally solid driver with a nice, comfortable and low center of gravity.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max also features an adjustable hosel for fine-tuning your shot shape.

The Rogue ST Family

The Rogue ST Max is the only one with a 26 gram tungsten weight. The Rogue ST Max D, Rogue ST Max LS and Rogue ST LS have either 23 gram or 20 gram weights. The Rogue ST LS was the most workable of the bunch and produced the lowest spin off the tee.

Who is the Cobra Radspeed Driver for?

The Cobra Radspeed would be best for players in the handicap range of 0-15.

Don’t get us wrong, the milled expansive milled area of the Radspeed driver equals higher flex and more forgiveness on less than accurate shots. So it’s still surprisingly forgiving for a driver in this category. But the Radspeed was really built for players who don’t need to worry about making consistent contact.

The extreme front weighting will give lower handicap players what they love: minimal spin off the tee. It also produces lower launch angles which usually means a hotter trajectory.

You will also need to have a decent swing speed to get the most out of this driver though. But for mid to low handicap range players, this shouldn’t be a problem. The Cobra Radspeed may do a bit to help increase distance for beginners and high handicappers; but most of its features would be better utilized in the hands of more experienced players.
