Cobra OPTM X Overview Whats New For 2026
The OPTM X is Cobras answer to accuracy problems and its taking a totally different approach than everyone else.
Instead of just maximizing MOI like most manufacturers, Cobra is focusing on reducing POI which measures 3D twisting across all axes. The result is a driver that hits a POI score of minus 500 which is all about stopping those wild hooks and pulls that ruin your scorecard.
The AI designed head uses machine learning to reshape everything and reposition weights specifically for accuracy. The adjustable weight system lets you tune for maximum forgiveness or shift things forward for higher speed accuracy which means this club can grow with your game.
There’s also the FUTUREFIT33 hosel offering 33 different loft and lie combinations so you’ve got serious adjustment options.
The face tech is called H.O.T face with 15 strategically placed hot spots across the face for fast ball speeds even on mishits. The high carbon crown and sole with those distinctive blue accents keep things lightweight while looking pretty sharp.

The G440 K is Pings latest take on the 10,000 MOI concept and they’ve added adjustability that wasn’t possible in previous models.
The standout feature is the 32g adjustable back weight which is 4g heavier than the predecessor. You can shift this weight for draw, neutral or fade shots depending on what your ball flight needs.
Ping used their Dual CarbonFly Wrap technology on the crown and sole to save weight and the Free Hosel tech shaves grams off the hosel area. All that saved weight gets pushed to the back for maximum MOI and stability.
The T9S+ refined VFT face delivers increased flex and faster ball speeds with a larger sweet spot. The head is 3g lighter than before despite being a full 460cc and the profile is longer front to back which pushes the CG deeper.
What really stands out is the static draw bias built right into the head. At address there’s a slightly closed appearance that actively fights against slices which is exactly what most high handicappers need.
The sound is a loud titanium noise that’s considerably more pleasing than past Ping models. Face flexion is noticable even on off center strikes which gives you good feedback.
For golfers who miss right and need maximum stability the G440 K is hard to beat.

These are two very different drivers targeting similar golfers who need forgiveness but want different things.
The Cobra OPTM X produced better distance numbers in testing with 10 more yards of carry and nearly 20 yards more total distance. The lower spin and higher launch angle created a more optimal flight that maximized roll out.
Ball speeds were essentially identical with the Ping just slightly ahead at 158.9 mph versus 158.6 mph for the Cobra.
Where they really differ is the technology approach. Cobra is all about reducing POI to minimize 3D twisting while Ping maxes out MOI for stability on two axes. The result is the Cobra feels more versitile with tighter dispersion when you dial it in while the Ping is more about keeping everything in play no matter what.
The adjustability story heavily favours Cobra with 33 hosel settings plus moveable weights versus just the weight adjustment on the Ping. If you want a driver that can be tuned as your game improves the OPTM X gives you way more options.
Sound wise the Cobra is louder and more booming while the Ping has improved but is still on the aggressive side for titanium noise.
The Ping G440 K is the better choice if you struggle with a slice because that draw bias is strong and actively fights right misses. But if you miss left this isn’t your driver.
The Cobra OPTM X suits golfers who want maximum adjustability and are serious about dialing in their launch conditions. The ability to shift from forgiveness mode to accuracy mode as you improve is a genuine advantage.

Ping G440 K Driver First Impressions
My first impression was this thing is absolutely massive, even bigger looking than the G430 Max 10k which was already huge.
The head has a longer profile from front to back and sits with a slightly closed face angle at address which gives it that draw biased look. If you struggle with a slice this is going to inspire confidence before you even take a swing.
The turbulators are still there on the crown which I know divides opinion but I find them helpful as an alignment aid.
Sound wise its got that loud titanium crack but its actually more pleasing than previous Ping models that got criticized for harsh noise. You can feel the face flex happening even on off center hits which is impressive for a driver this forgiving.
What really stands out is the 32g adjustable back weight which is 4g heavier than what was in the G430 Max 10k. This is a proper innovation because you can shift the CG for draw, neutral or fade shots which you just couldnt do with previous 10,000 MOI drivers.

Who is the Ping G440 K Driver for?
This driver is made for high to mid handicappers who struggle with shots leaking right and want maximum forgiveness.
The static draw bias combined with the 10,000 MOI means its incredibly difficult to produce a slice with this club. During testing I was actively trying to hit it right and the driver just wouldnt cooperate, it wants to go straight or slightly left.
The adjustable back weight is brilliant because you can configure it for your particular shot shape. If you need more draw help you can shift the weight, if you want neutral flight you can do that too.
Ball speed retention on mishits was excellent. Off center strikes that would normally cost serious distance only lost a fraction of that with the G440 K. The larger sweet spot and face flex was noticable across more of the face.
One thing to watch out for is if you predominantly miss left this probably isnt your driver. The draw bias is strong and could make those left misses worse.
The Dual CarbonFly Wrap and Free Hosel technology save weight from the crown, sole and hosel which all gets reinvested into that adjustable back weight for maximum MOI. Its clever engineering that you can actually feel working when you hit it.
Distance was very good though there was a slight loss when the driver was working hard to control spin and keep things straight. But thats a tradeoff most players struggling with accuracy will happily make.
This is faster and more forgiving than the G430 Max 10k with better sound and feel. The adjustability separates it from other ultra high MOI drivers and proves that this category is still evolving and getting better.

The high gloss carbon crown is pretty reflective so you might get a bit of glare on bright days but the simple alignment aid and clear face lines make setup easy enough.
The feel off the face is aggressive with a loud booming sound. No clicky metallic ping here, just a proper boom that tells you you’ve made contact. Launch tends to be penetrating which is nice when you want that controlled ball flight.
Testing showed some seriously high speed and carry numbers with strong forgiveness even when you don’t catch it perfectly.
