Cobra OPTM X Overview Whats New For 2026

OPTM X 5

The OPTM X is Cobra’s big update for 2026 and the focus has shifted from just maximizing MOI to reducing POI which is Product of Inertia.

While MOI measures resistance to twisting on horizontal and vertical planes, POI accounts for the clubhead in 3D space including diagonal twisting and toe heel droop at impact.

Cobra claims that by reducing POI the OPTM drivers offer up to 23% tighter downrange dispersion than previous generations, especially on off center hits.

The OPTM X has the largest POI reduction in Cobra’s new range with a score of -500 compared to -600 in the previous DS-ADAPT X, and this is all about minimizing multi axis twisting at impact for better accuracy.

The head is still 460cc with a classic teardrop shape but there’s a high gloss carbon crown now instead of the matte finish on the DS-ADAPT. The distinctive blue accents set it apart from the MAX-K which has white and the MAX-D which has red.

The adjustable weight system is still there but now it focuses on tuning for forgiveness versus high speed accuracy rather than just spin control. You can set the weights back for maximum forgiveness which performs nearly equal to the MAX-K model, or move them forward to boost speed and tighten dispersion for better players.

The H.O.T face is derived from machine learning with 15 strategically placed hot spots for fast ball speeds across the face, and the FutureFit33 hosel system still offers 33 loft and lie combinations.

Sound and feel is aggressive with a loud booming impact that conveys power without harsh metallic tones. The launch tends to be more penetrating than the DS-ADAPT which better players will appreciate.

Overall the OPTM X brings genuinely interesting tech with the POI focus and delivers impressive speed and carry numbers in testing.

Cobra DS-ADAPT X Overview

Cobra DS Adapt X Driver 2

The DS-ADAPT X was Cobra’s 2025 offering and it’s all about adjustability and future proofing your driver.

The FutureFit33 hosel system offers 33 different loft and lie settings with a full 4 degree loft range and lie angle adjustments of plus or minus 2 degrees. The increments are super fine at 0.3, 0.7, 1, 1.4, and 1.7 degrees which gives you tons of precision.

There’s even a QR code on the hosel that links to Cobra’s fitting tool to help you select the best setting based on your ball flight.

The DS-ADAPT X comes with two interchangeable weights, a 3g and 10g, with heavier weights up to 14g available for purchase. Forward weight placement lowers spin and increases ball speed while the back weight adds forgiveness and stability.

The 9 degree and 10.5 degree heads have different internal weighting with the 9 degree having forward weight positioning for lower spin and more speed.

The 460cc head features a forged face insert for strong ball speed and aerodynamic shaping with Cobra’s PWR-BRIDGE internal weighting that varies by loft.

The look is stealth mode with almost entirely matte black carbon fiber crown and mixed matte chrome black sole. There’s a subtle C alignment aid at the heel and minimal branding. The quilted black headcover is one of the sharpest designs from 2025.

The sound profile changes noticeably depending on strike location. Heel strikes give you a mid pitched crack while center strikes produce a low pitched hollow pop. Its basically built in feedback without harsh metallic tones.

The DS-ADAPT X delivers medium high launch with medium spin and maintains excellent ball speed and directional stability even on mishits.

For golfers who want maximum adjustability and a driver that can adapt as their swing changes the DS-ADAPT X is brilliant.

Overall Cobra OPTM X Vs DS-ADAPT X

The performance difference between these two is pretty small but the OPTM X edges ahead with slightly higher ball speed and noticeably more carry distance.

Both drivers launch identically at 13.6 degrees with nearly the same spin rates, but the OPTM X has a more penetrating flight at 38.4 feet compared to 42.4 feet for the DS-ADAPT X.

The OPTM X focuses on reducing POI for tighter dispersion and fewer wild hooks or pulls which is genuinely interesting tech. The AI designed weight positioning targets accuracy in a way most manufacturers aren’t really talking about.

The DS-ADAPT X prioritizes overall adjustability with its extensive hosel settings and interchangeable weight system. If you know your swing changes throughout the season or youre working on your game the DS-ADAPT X gives you room to adapt without buying a new driver.

Both drivers have that aggressive Cobra sound but the OPTM X is more of a booming impact while the DS-ADAPT X gives you more feedback variation between heel and center strikes.

The high gloss carbon crown on the OPTM X might catch some glare compared to the stealthy matte finish on the DS-ADAPT X, so that’s worth considering if you prefer a subdued look at address.

For better players who want tight dispersion and a penetrating ball flight the OPTM X is the clear choice. For golfers who value maximum adjustability and future proofing their driver the DS-ADAPT X still makes a ton of sense especially if you can find it at a discount now that the OPTM is out.

Both are excellent drivers and its really down to whether you prioritize the POI tech and slightly better performance or the extensive adjustability and classic stealth aesthetic.

Cobra OPTM X Driver First Impressions

Classic teardrop shape with high carbon content crown and sole, and those distinctive blue accents really set it apart from the MAX-K and MAX-D models.

The high gloss carbon crown is pretty reflective so you might get a bit of glare on bright days but the simple alignment aid and clear face lines make setup easy enough.

The feel off the face is aggressive with a loud booming sound. No clicky metallic ping here, just a proper boom that tells you you’ve made contact. Launch tends to be penetrating which is nice when you want that controlled ball flight.

Testing showed some seriously high speed and carry numbers with strong forgiveness even when you don’t catch it perfectly.

Cobra OPTM X Driver Loft Options

The OPTM X comes with the FUTUREFIT33 adjustable hosel system giving you 33 unique loft and lie combinations to dial in your launch.

That’s way more adjustment than most drivers and it means you can really fine tune this thing with a proper fitting.

The adjustable forward and rear weights let you choose between maximum forgiveness or high speed accuracy depending on what your game needs.

Who is the Cobra OPTM X Driver for?

OPTM X 5

This is designed for mid to high handicappers who are serious about lowering scores and want a driver that can adapt as their game improves.

The interesting thing here is Cobras focus on reducing POI rather than just chasing the highest MOI numbers. POI is about reducing multi axis twisting at impact which cuts down on those wild hooks and pulls that can really mess up your round.

When you set the weights for maximum forgiveness the OPTM X performs nearly equal to the more forgiving MAX-K model which is impressive. Move the weight forward and you boost speed and distance but trade off a bit of forgiveness and spin consistency.

The face tech uses machine learning with 15 strategically placed hot spots so you still get fast ball speeds even on off centre hits.

Despite not having absolute maximum MOI numbers the OPTM X delivers strong forgiveness with tighter dispersion when set up for accuracy mode. The testing backed this up with some of the highest speed and carry numbers we’ve seen recently.

The launch is penetrating rather than super high which better players appreciate when they want a more controlled flight. And the adjustability means developmental players can set it for forgiveness now and adjust for more speed and accuracy later as they improve.

If you struggle more with hooks and pulls than slices the POI reduction tech is specifically targeting your issue.

The aggressive booming sound wont be everyone’s cup of tea and the reflective crown might catch some glare but if you want a driver with tons of versatility and genuinely impressive performance the OPTM X is definitely worth a look.

It has a long and forgiving head alongside 33 loft and lie options which will be a club fitters dream but may get other eager golfers into trouble on the course by using the wrong settings.

The Carbon wraps around the head and the sole and Cobra say that they have again improved the aerodynamics of the driver for extra club head speed and they have also reduced the weight the optimize the CG placement.

There are two moveable weights, 10g and 3g which are interchangeable and sit at the front and back of the head.

The Forged hot face is also improved, offering increased forgiveness on off center shots. It also gives a premium sound and feel and offers a ton of ball speed off the face.

The X version is one of 4 heads on offer and even Rickie Fowler has this customized to his optimal settings on tour in 2025.

The X is for moderate to slightly faster swing speeds who want a moderate/high launch, plenty of distance and a bunch of forgiveness.
