Cobra F-Max Airspeed Golf Club Set Review 2023

It’s hard enough to learn the game of golf without your clubs working against you.

One of the things that turns new players off about the game is slow swing speeds and lack of distance off the tee.

Today though, we will be highlighting a set that promises to help with that.

Cobra F-Max Airspeed

The Cobra F-Max Airspeed complete golf club set has some of the premium features that Cobra is known for in a more accessible, beginner-friendly set.

The Cobra F-Max Airspeed clubs came out back in January of 2020. They were the heirs apparent to the Cobra Superlite clubs. Like the Superlite clubs, the Cobra F-Max Airspeed set emphasized weight savings.

Most of the weight savings come from the carbon fiber crown that is commonplace in much more expensive, premium Cobra golf clubs. The idea was to help newbies increase their swing speed.

And that idea comes to life with these clubs. On average, our testers were seeing 5MPH swing speed increases with the woods and hybrids in this set. While that didn’t always equate to more distance (accuracy is always a factor), more often than not, it did.

All of the woods and hybrids feature pronounced offset to help straighten out shots and correct rightward misses (leftward misses if you’re a lefty). So right off the bat, most of these clubs are forgiving.

The Cobra F-Max Airspeed clubs do have an above-average price for beginner’s clubs (you can still expect to pay around $1300 for the complete set) and they do lack some premium features like adjustable loft; but this is a set that beginners will still be able to use as they start lowering their handicaps.

Cobra F-Max Airspeed – First Impressions & Club Breakdowns

The first thing we noticed about these clubs was how light they were. We must say that the Cobra F-Max Airspeed clubs really live up to their name.

The look of these clubs isn’t too shabby either. The carbon fiber composite crowns give them a premium look in the bag and at point of address. Of course, the real star of the show is the ease of use.

The Cobra F-Max Airspeed clubs swing light and swing fast – perfect for senior players or anyone looking for an increase in swing speed.

Driver

You can choose between a 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 degree driver for this set. It has a generous 460CC head with an offset you can see at point of address. Overall, it’s very easy to turn this club over and the carbon fiber crown keeps everything light and manageable.

Wood

The Cobra F-Max Airspeed set includes a 3 and 5 fairway wood. Both of these woods feature heel biased weighting to help you shoot straighter on the fairway – or the tee for that matter. They are 165 and 170CC respectively and are set to 20 and 16 degrees respectively.

Hybrids

What we really liked about these hybrids is that they play long and accurate. Our better testers were able to aggressively attack long approaches with both of these hybrids which also have heel-biased weighting. You get good shot shapeability thanks to the shallower than average faces and head profiles.

Irons

Included in the Cobra F-Max Airspeed set are cavity back irons 6-9. These are low profile irons with strong lofts to promote optimal launch throughout the set. While the soles and toplines of these irons could be a bit more substantial, you still get good launch and forgiveness from them.

Wedges

You get a 45 degree pitching wedge and a 55 degree sand wedge in the set. These are probably the least forgiving clubs in the set which isn’t saying much because they are still light, manageable and easy to swing. The only issue is with overshooting. They play a bit longer than we like which meant having to reel in swings and seeing some shots sail over the gree

Putter

Last but not least is a blade-style putter that has a machined face set to the perfect thickness for long or short putts.

Shafts

You can get the Cobra F-Max Airspeed set with either graphite or steel shafts.

While there is some question about the durability of these clubs, we really liked how light and fast they played. The hybrids were especially impressive as they provided equal parts distance and accuracy.

Cobra F-Max Airspeed Selling Points

  • Great-looking set of clubs

Cobra F-Max Airspeed Cons

  • Durability is a bit of an issue

  • The irons don’t have a great look at point of address
  • A bit pricey for game-improvement clubs

Who is the Cobra F-Max Airspeed Set for?

The Cobra F-Max Airspeed golf club set would be a good choice for anyone looking to invest in a set of clubs that will serve them beyond their beginner days.

Using these clubs is a great way to instantly increase swing speed, confidence and in most cases, distance. Because of the added swing speed from weight savings, these clubs would also be great for senior players or players who have walked away from the game for an extended period of time and are looking to pick it up again.

Beyond that though, the woods are surprisingly workable so this would be a serviceable set even as your game improves into mid handicap territory.

While we were a bit disappointed by the lack of spin control in the short irons, the launch was still there to pop high and bite down on fast greens.
