Cobra Aerojet Irons Review 2023

“The Cobra Aerojet irons are cavity back, cast irons that occupy the mid-tier in terms of price range.”

“If you don’t want to spend a ton on premium irons but still want good quality, this is definitely a set you should have your eye on in 2023.”

We should also throw in that the Cobra Aerojet irons are definitely game improvement irons. The overall design is pretty basic even as Cobra claims that these are some of the most technically advanced irons they have ever produced. In this case though, the simplicity of these irons really works to their benefit.

We had the opportunity to take these irons out for a spin so to speak and we get a very good feel of how they perform and what kind of player would benefit the most from them. Take a look at what we found in the following Cobra Aerojet irons review.

The Cobra Aerojet Irons Family

“In reality, there are no different club head versions in the Cobra Aerojet irons family.”

Still, it should be noted that you can get them in One Length and progressive length versions.

The Cobra Aerojet Irons

  • 4-SW configuration (full set)
  • Progressive shaft lengths

If you have not yet jumped on the One Length irons bandwagon, you will feel totally at home with the standard Cobra Aerojet irons. The lengths run from 39.25” (4-iron) to 35.50” (SW).

The Cobra Aerojet One Length Irons

  • 4-SW configuration (full set)
  • One Length shafts

If you prefer honing in one one setup no matter what iron you have to use, the Cobra Aerojet One Length irons would be a good choice for you. They are all set to 37.25 inches in length.

Key Features

PWRSHELL Face Insert

The PWRSHELL Face insert has been designed to preserve ball speed in the areas of the face that players tend to mis-hit. The sweet spot is essentially expanded over more of the face and the insert was designed to be exceptionally forgiving low on the face.

PWR-BRIDGE Weighting System

The new weighting system that Cobra is using for all of their Aerojet clubs is essentially a floating weight that is connected at the heel and toe of the irons. This increases torsional stability while at the same time, allowing the face to flex to a higher degree. In the case of the Cobra Aerojet irons, the floating weight is coated in polymer to smooth out the feel.

HOT Face Technology

The face was designed using computer simulations of all kinds of shots. The data was then used to develop a face architecture that performed optimally in almost all scenarios.

Are They Good for High Handicappers?

“The Cobra Aerojet irons would be nothing if they weren’t good for high handicappers.”

After testing them, we would go as far as to say that they were designed and built specifically for high handicappers. First, let’s talk about the profile. These are not slim, short blades. These are cavity backs that run a good distance from heel to toe. The topline is moderate which is nice and you can’t see the sole jut out at address – also nice.

Still, the sole is moderately chunky so overall, the profile of the head is perfect for high handicappers. You get plenty of sweet spot to work with and the strong lofts work with the soles and cavity undercut to produce moderate launch; but good carry distance. So the forgiveness is there and the distance is fairly easy to unlock for high handicappers.

Available Shafts

  • KBS PGI 85, 75 and 65 (stiff, regular and amateur flex)
  • KBS Tour Lite steel shaft (stiff and regular flex)

Are the Cobra Aerojet Irons Worth it?

“We would say yes, especially considering you can score the entire set for $1000.”

Again, not the cheapest iron set; but considering they are brand new, they are a reasonable price. Aside from price, the Cobra Aerojet irons are worth it if you are looking for a forgiving set of irons that will still work for you as you plunge your score under 100.

Our testers really liked how quickly they were able to figure out the distance equation for these irons. The loftis naturally strong but there is enough weighting and sole width to help you balance it out and achieve the perfect launch for your swing speed.

In 20 Words or Less

“The Cobra Aerojet irons will give high handicap players confidence on their full swings and more accuracy.”

Cobra Aerojet Irons – First Impressions

“Right away, we liked the moderate footprint of these irons.”

We could just tell by looking at them out of the packaging that they would suit the needs of a wide variety of everyday golfers. They look forgiving, are forgiving and will provide you the launch angles you need for any kind of lie. Around the pin, you can unleash their full launch potential to nail fast greens. And from distance, the naturally low launch will give you piercing trajectory and ball speed.

The Cobra Iron Family

“The T-rail irons are also a handy choice for high handicappers.”

They sport a hybrid iron design with baffler rails to help you glide through rough turf. These are definitely for players scoring above 100.

Cobra Aerojet Irons Selling Points

  • Moderate sole width
  • Great for high handicappers
  • They provide enough launch around the pin
  • They are forgiving
  • They have a smooth feel at impact

Who Are the Cobra Aerojet Irons for?

“The Cobra Aerojet irons would be a great choice for high handicappers looking to score a set that will still be of use to them as they improve.”

While spin control was a bit lacking (especially in the shorter irons), our testers really didn’t care because of how forgiving these irons are. They provide great distance thanks to the naturally strong loft but are tempered nicely by a sizable undercut cavity and moderate soles.

Distance: 96/100

Forgiveness: 96/100

Workability: 94/100

Feel & Control: 95/100

Overall Score: 95/100
