Cobra Aerojet Fairway Woods Review 2023

“The new Aerojet line of golf clubs from Cobra is certainly geared towards higher handicap players.”

This game improvement line of clubs sticks to a fairly simple formula as well. So do they hold any value for you?

Simple is sometimes best. It’s easy to get bogged down, blinded and frankly confused with all the high tech and features that go into modern clubs. With the Cobra Aerojet Fairway lineup, we see Cobra dialing things back a bit.

The Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods have almost all the makings of a classic Cobra golf club. It’s lightweight and brings versatile performance – the only thing that seems to be missing is forward weighting. So we weren’t exactly sure what to expect from these clubs; but we quickly found out. Let’s take a look at the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods.

The Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood Family

“There are three members of the new Cobra Aerojet Fairway wood family: the standard Aerojet woods, the Aerojet Max and the Aerojet LS.”

The Cobra Aerojet Fairway Woods

  • #3, #5 and #7 options available
  • 168cc, 158cc and 159cc heads

The standard Cobra Aerojet Fairway sits between the Cobra Aerojet LS and Aerojet max fairway woods in terms of launch angles. It has a controlled flight and moderate spin.

The Cobra Aerojet Max Fairway Woods

  • #3, #5 and #7 options available
  • Adjustable weights

Unlike the standard Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods, the Aerojet max has two adjustable weights that allow you to shift  the CG to a neutral or draw position.

The Cobra Aerojet LS Fairway Woods

  • #3 and #5 options available
  • Adjustable weights

The Cobra Aerojet LS fairway woods also come with adjustable weights; but this time, you can choose between a neutral or fade bias. The LS version is the low-spinning, low-launching member of the Aerojet family.

Key Features

Fixed Back Weight

The standard Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods are the only ones in the new lineup that have a single fixed weight in the back. This weight helps increase MOI while encouraging strong launch angles.

Suspended Weight System

There is also an internal weight that is suspended; but connected to the heel and toe sections of the head. This allows for more torsional control while increasing overall forgiveness.

Carbon Fiber Crown

In order to make way for all of these weights, the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods feature carbon fiber crowns. Carbon fiber is incredibly light and incredibly strong which is why you’re seeing it more and more in modern golf clubs.

Are They Good for High Handicappers?

“The Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods are a good choice for high handicappers who struggle to get enough air under their shots.”

The launch is pretty high but it can easily be controlled. Spin rates are pretty low for a fairway wood with so much rear weighting. Plus, the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods have what is essentially variable face thickness so you won’t get punished so harshly when you mis-hit.

In addition to being good for high handicappers, the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods would also be a decent choice for mid handicappers. That’s because Cobra left enough room for these woods to be moderately workable. Our testers were able to draw the ball a few degrees almost at will.

Available Shafts

  • UST Helium Nanocore 5F2 (amateur flex)
  • MCA Kali’li Blue 60 (stiff and extra stiff flex)

Is the Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood Worth it?

“While there was nothing about the features or technology that really wowed us, we still think the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods offer pretty good value for mid to high handicappers.”

Especially mid handicappers. Despite the lack of adjustable weights, the standard Cobra Aerojet Fairway wood was workable. Not only from side-to-side; but vertically as well. The launch is naturally pretty moderate but our better testers were able to squeeze towering shots that landed dead with these woods.

Keep in mind that if you need the most distance from your woods, these probably aren’t the best choice. Overall distance was average across the board – not bad at all, but not great either. But the workability and forgiveness are definitely there.

“The standard Cobra Aerojet Fairway wood is a unique combination of workability and forgiveness with a naturally moderate launch.”

Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood – First Impressions

“There is nothing about the design of the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods that really blew us away.”

It has a clean look behind the ball, which is certainly a good thing. But even on paper, there isn’t enough that’s new about the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods compared to their past woods that really got the blood pumping for us.

Still, it is surprisingly workable and is a good fairway wood for attacking the pin on long par 4’s and 5’s.

The Cobra Aerojet Fairway Family

“If you’re looking for the most forgiveness, the Cobra Aerojet Max is a good choice.”

Better players will naturally gravitate to the exceptionally low-spinning Cobra Aerojet LS fairway woods. The LS version also launches low so players with faster swing speeds will definitely find it to be the best distance wood of the three new versions.

Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood Selling Points

  • Adjustable loft sleeve
  • Very forgiving overall
  • It has a sold feel at impact
  • Clean look at address
  • Spin and launch can be controlled well
  • Consistent spin and distance

Who is the Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood for?

“At the end of the day, mid handicappers would probably get the best use out of this fairway wood.”

At least, that was the case for our testers. Our high handicap testers really liked the forgiveness of these fairway woods; but they weren’t able to work them as masterfully as some of our better testers. The good thing about the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods is that they yield consistent distance almost regardless of your swing speed.

Again though, mid handicappers will love the controllable spin and launch of these woods.

Distance: 94/100

Forgiveness: 95/100

Accuracy: 97/100

Feel & Control: 97/100

Overall Score: 96/100
